aregratefulforeveryonewhodonatedfood,signeduptobeasecretpal,decoratedandcleaneduptheteachers'lounge,andservedfoodthroughout theweek.And thank you to the studentswho took thetime to write meaningful letters to their teachers. Over100friendsandmembersofyourPTSAgatheredforour5thannualNightOutforNautilusAuctionandDinneronApril23rdattheFederalWayCommunityCenter.Theballroomwasbeautiful.Thevenuewashighlightedwithbluesandgreensandfilledwiththedonationsofourgenerouscommunity.Thiswas
thevisioncreatedbyourDecorationsChairsJackieSeztoandTiffanyLaFontaine.TherewasahugelypopularphotowallmasterfullyoperatedbyDr.EddieLo.ThesinewsoftheeventwerethecountlesshoursofworkputinbyourAuctionAdministrationChairTenilleHyunandCommunityOutreachandDonationChairDr.NatalieLo.Withouttheirdedicationtheauctionwouldnothavehappened.ThereweretwotablesoverflowingwithgorgeousbasketslovinglydonatedbythestaffandparentsofNautilus.Thankyoutoalltheanonymousparentswhohelpedinmakingtheschoolbasketsandthankyoutotheteachers,parentsandstaffwhocametogethertomakethempossible.ThenightwasexpertlyguidedbyourMasterofCeremoniesMickAdkisson.DonHyun,ourkeynotespeaker,talkedabouttheimportanceofprovidingkidstheopportunitiestosucceed.HealsoshowedoffSTEM(Science,Technology,EngineeringandMath)projectsthatyourstudentsmayhavethechancetoexperiencebecauseofthegeneroussupportersthatnight.Theeveninghadanetprofitofabout$19,000fortheprogramsthatdirectlysupportallofthestudentsatNautilusK-8.Nextyearwaswantedtofocusonthreespecificprojectsthatareinlinewiththeschool’sanddistricts’visionforaSTEAMeducationatNautilus.Attheauctionweraisedover$1500forrecreation,almost$2400fortheArts,andalmost$3900forSTEM.Thankyoutoallofourgenerousdonorsandparticipantsatthisyear’sauction!Wealsowanttothankallofourauctioncommitteechairswhoseleadershipanddedicationmadethenightpossible:NatalieLoourCommunityOutreachandDonationChair,MickAdkissontheMasterofCeremonies,TenilleHyunourwonderfulAuctionAdministrationChair,JackieSeztoandTiffanyLaFontainetheDecorationsChairs,JasonSimpsontheDessertDashChair,GretchenKoontzthesuccessfulGoldenTicketChair,AnneMarieTennisontheSchoolBasketsChair,andThomasFitchnerourgreatAuctionITConsultant.WealsowanttothankourfantasticPTSAmemberswhosteppedforwardtohelpwiththeirtimeandhardworkforthestudentsatNautilus:GaylaNutt,VeronikaMarino,JudithRobinson,DeannaBardwell,EddieLo,MelissaStanley,LorriMunsey-Snyder,JenniForsman,ToniKelly,MelissaSimpson,DonHyun,ZenashHadera,JenniferBecker-Covert,ValerieRhodes,DianaBogert,JasonLaFontaine,KelvinSezto,TomBlevens,DanaKahn,RoxaneBlevens,EricaIwase,andJulieMarshall.Wealsowanttothankalltheteachersandstaffwhosupportedusthatnightbybeingapartofthefun.Finally,aspecialthankyoutoPrincipalLucas,Mr.Kosty,Mr.Anderson,Mr.UnderwoodandMr.HaegelewhospokepassionatelyaboutSTEMeducationinyourstudent’sschool.Thankyoueveryoneformakingour5thauctionagreatsuccess.Seeyounextyear!

NautilusCommunityGardenNewsClasseshavebeguntorotatethroughthegardenthisspring.Mrs.Day's (5thgrade)class plantedthe lettuce starts that Mrs. Adkisson's (2ndgrade) andMrs. Nokes' (3rd grade) classroomsstartedinthegreenhouse.Mrs.Day'sclassalsoplanted carrot and radish seeds. Mrs. Beck's
class(KG)plantedpeas.MissWilliams'class(1stgrade)plantedWallaWalla SweetOnion starts. Mrs. Adkisson's class plantedspinach seeds. Miss William's class (4th grade) planted seedpotatoes in our old compost pile. We hope this experimentworksoutwithaplentifulpotatocrop!Mrs.Adkisson'sclassalsobuilt lady bug homes and introduced baby ladybugs into thegarden. We hope these lady bugs like their new home anddecidetostaysincetheyarebeneficialinsectsthateataphids.Ifyou are interested in getting involved with the school gardenpleasee-mailMelissa Stanley [email protected]. Thankyoutotheparentvolunteersthathelpmakethisallpossible.Inaddition to helping with classrooms, we will be looking forfamiliestohelptendthegardenoverthesummer.AlsoAHUGEthankyoutotheMarineHillsGardenClub.Forthesixthyearinarowtheyhavedonated flats of vegetable and flower starts forourgardenprogram.Theirsupportovertheyearshassavedusalotofmoney.Wereallyappreciatetheircontinuedgenerosity!Thanksforsupportingourschoolgarden!

The cost is now $17, and checks should bewrittentoNautilusPTSA.TheyearbookswillbehandedoutduringPlayDayonJune10th, and the studentswill have achance to getsignaturesfromtheirclassmatesandfriendsthatday.
The Art Gallery Show was in the library during Student-LedConferences.Itturnedoutlookinggreatwithallourstudents'workgracing the libraryspace. I letmoreart gohomeduringtheyearthanIhaveinthepast,soMOSTofthestudentshadsomethinguponthewallsorpotterydisplayed.Thankyouto
my helpers for getting things ready and setting up and taking down theshow - Thank you, Gretchen Koontz, Tiffany LaFontaine, Jackie Sezto,AnneMarie Tennison. A big Thank You also goes to our principal, StacyLucas and officemanager, Suzy Claar for making this celebration of ourstudents' art a possibility! And last but not least, Thank You to JodiAndersonforsharingthelibrarywithusduringthistime!
ARTFORACAUSE!During the gallery show, you may have noticedthat middle schoolers had started the StudentsRebuild Challenge, Pin Wheels for Syria. Pinwheelsweremadebymiddleschoolers,students,parents and siblings at the gallery show AND
studentswithMrs.Andersoninthepastcoupleweeks.ForeachpinwheelmadeandsenttoStudentsRebuild,theBezosFamilyFoundationwilldonate$2tohelpSyrianRefugeeChildren(youcanreadmoreaboutitonlineatwww.studentsrebuild.org).Ourteam, NautilusNavigators,made510 pinwheels! That's $1020donated because of your efforts! Way to go team! You areamazing!
ReadandLeadWith theweatherbeingsonice latelywehope yourstudentsareenjoyingagoodbookoutside!ReadandLead prize day is Friday May 13th for thismonth.They'll receive a greatNautiluswaterbottle
tohelpthemquenchtheirthirst.SAVETHEDATE:MondayJune6,2016.Themedalceremonyforthosesuperreadersthatmettheirreadinggoalseach month this school year will take place onJune 6, 2016in theNautilus Library.It is a wonderful occasion where the studentswill berecognized by Principle Lucas with a reading medal and pictures. Students are finishing up art projects and we are gettingeverythingreadytosendhomewithstudentsaftertheirlastartsessions(whichareALLscheduledforthenext2weeks).This year has been a busy one and it has flown by! Therewere8artsessionsscheduled foreachclass thisyearwhich
giveseachstudentthechancetoparticipatein6-7art/designprojects(someprojectstake2sessionstocomplete).ExpectsomechangesfortheArt/Cartprogramnextyear.Eachyeartheprogramhaschangedslightlyinthewaysweapproach certain things.
