Art Challenge

Looking for fresh inspiration? Take the challenge to paint a new still-life each month! Thanks to the efforts of Chuck Sisson and Bob Nielsen there will be a new still-life set up in the BCAC gallery each month. Artists are invited to paint in the gallery or use the photo of the still-life to paint at home. We are giving some consideration to offering a special exhibit of still-life paintings based on the monthly challenges.

New Members Marilyn Weisberg

Marilyn is an emerging, contemporary American Impressionist artist, based in the Chicago area. As an oil painter, she has a beautiful, unique style that combines fine detail with colorful, loose, abstract elements---creating a warm, dream-like quality to her work.

As a native of Detroit, Marilyn attended the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, graduating with degrees in psychology and public health, specializing in maternal and child health. While building an impressive, 25-year career in healthcare, she has been dedicated to creative pursuits and

growing as an artist. For hospitals, she combined her talents by writing and illustrating educational programs on medical and surgical topics, as well as media for employee training. More recently, she has written and illustrated the opening chapters of a children’s book on body parts, called, “Kathy Kidney and Friends.”

Early on, as an independent artist, Marilyn designed and marketed a line of 50 greeting cards around the country, called “Whimerics,” with whimsical pen & ink drawings. She did newspaper illustrations for the Detroit News, courtroom illustrations for WDIV-TV, and animated cartoons for TV commercials.

Throughout her life, Marilyn has always been drawing and painting---in acrylics, watercolors, pencils, pen and ink, and now oils--her favorite medium. Her professional interest in mothers and children spills over into her art, which often reflects her love of figures and faces—both adults and children.

Now embracing a full-time career as an oil painter, Marilyn credits the Main Street Art Academy in Lake Zurich, Illinois for enhancing her oil painting skills and adding greatly to her technique. At Main Street, she has studied under a number of talented fine artists, including Frankie Johnson, Susan Ploughe, Romel de la Torre, Kevin Bielfuss, and Kerry Dunn.

*Marilyn Weisberg Batmangelich usually goes by her maiden name.
