Center Spotlight
Mary A. Keene Ms. Senior Irondale 2015
Ms. Congeniality 2015
Mary is our first “Ms. Senior Irondale” and has already made a public appearance at the Iron-dale Spring Festival. She was in a tough com-petition with many talented and elegant ladies. She showed off her artistic talents at the pag-eant by painting with chalk to music.
She is a proud mother of 3 children and 6 grandchildren. She is certified as a Therapeutic Recreational Specialist and in 1976 she was in charge of the Irondale Parks and Recreation Department for the Bicentennial.
Mary has served on the Board of Directors for Big Brothers/Big Sisters and Pacesetters and is an active member of the Sjogren’s Syndrome Support Group. In her spare time, when there is any, she also volunteers at the American Heart Association.
The “Ms. Senior Irondale” title will have to join the many others that have been bestowed on Mary. Some of which are, Student Council at Georgia Southern University, Alpha Rho Tau President and “Employee of the Month” at the VA Medical Center.
Winning the title of Ms. Senior Irondale was never expected by Mary. She just knew it would be a fun experience for her and her fam-ily and friends. She encourages other ladies, 60 & over, to consider the pageant, for she had a wonderful, exciting time!
We are very proud to call her our very first
“Ms. Senior Irondale”

“Barbara’s Bits of Tips”
Pie Crust Saver—Keep your pie crusts from getting too brown by covering the edges of your pie with strips of aluminum foil.
Corn’s up—According to the unwritten laws of The Guy’s Guide to Life and Cooking, everything edible can be grilled, but even the guys had to concede that grilled mac’n’cheese just wasn’t working. Grilled corn, on the other hand, really is good. The trick is to shuck it down to the last layer of the husk and cut off the furry edges with scis-sors. Pop those babies on the grill and watch for the moment when the husk starts to show the outline of the kernels and the top edges begin to peel down. The ears are ready.

“The Age of Adeline”—Lionsgate
Aer miraculously remaining 29 years old for almost eight decades, Ada-
line Bowman (Blake Lively) has lived a solitary existence, never allowing
herself to get close to anyone who might reveal her secret. But a chance
encounter with charisma"c philanthropist Ellis Jones (Michiel Huisman)
reignites her passion for life and romance. When a weekend with his par-
ents (Harrison Ford and Kathy Baker) threatens to uncover the truth, Ada-
line makes a decision that will change her life forever.
‘Pop Goes the Weasel’ by James Patterson
Detective Alex Cross is back and in love. But his happiness is threat-ened by a series of chilling murders in Washington, D.C, murders with a pattern so twisted, it leaves investigators reeling. Cross’s in-genious pursuit of the killer produces a suspect—a British diplomat named Geoffrey Shafer. But proving that Shafer is the murderer be-comes a potentially deadly task. As the diplomat engages in a bril-liant series of surprising countermoves, in and out of the courtroom, Alex and his fiancée become hopelessly entangled with the most memorable nemesis Alex Cross has ever faced.
“Pop Goes the Weasel” provides a chilling villain no reader will for-get, a love story of great tenderness, and a plot of re-lentless suspense and heart-pounding pace.

This art-deco museum honors great jazz artists
with ties to the state of Alabama. Exhibits convey
the accomplishments of the likes of Nat King
Cole, Duke Ellington, Lionel Hampton and Er-
skine Hawkins and the music that made them fa-
mous. Within this fine musical collection, visitors
travel from the beginnings of boogie woogie with
Clarence "Pinetop" Smith to the jazz space jour-
neys of Sun Ra and his Intergalactic Space
Arkestra.
