As the years pass and the face of society changes, there remain certain traditions and days that we must never change or allow to go uncelebrated.

As we approach summer and what many feel to be the beginning of the summer season, Memorial Day originally called Decoration Day, is a time of remembrance and a time to honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country and our freedom. Although not considered a National Holiday until 1971, the remembrance and honoring of our fallen soldiers has been a tradition since 1868, when General John Logan proclaimed it to be a day to honor the dead, with over 5,000 partici-pants decorating the some 20,000 graves of Union and Confederate soldiers at Arlington National Cemetery, where he made a speech. This tradition remains a part of the celebration today, with flags being placed on the more than 260,000 gravestones at Arlington.

To all that were unable to go home and watch their kids smile, appreciate a meal at night and a kiss goodnight their loved ones; To all that gave their life for something bigger than oneself, carried on their shoulders the fight for freedom, gave their lives for this great Nation;

To all that lost someone during the fight, that opened the door and received the flag of honor for their lost son or daughter, that watched the daily news and hoped for peace with every breath of their being, or had to tell their son ”daddy is not coming home”;

THANK YOU for your sacrifice, thank you for our freedom.

So, as you celebrate this day of honor, let’s all appreciate the freedoms we enjoy due to the sacrifices of these honorable men and women by sharing a bit of the history of this great country with our younger generations. Let’s “Decorate” this day with the love of family, enjoyment of the celebration of honoring these true heroes and the passing down of the traditions that began so many years ago.

Real Estate professionals in today’s industry are more independent than they have ever been. Living in the modern era of technology has given us the ability to have everything we need within a few keystrokes! We can procure our own leads, drive our own business, and create our own wealth. Have you ever noticed that when you have a few big closings, your phone rings off the hook with brokers wanting you to come and work for them? Yes, for them…not with them. As we all know, many brokerages out there are constantly head-hunting us and chasing our production.

There’s a simple reason for this- your success is their fortune. Every closing you have puts more money in their pocket. The harder you work, the more money you make for someone else. If you wanted to live this life, why not just go and get a 9-5 job punching a clock? There are three big things that Agents should look for when choosing the right brokerage to work with. Service, support, and split. Service: What kind of service is the broker offering you? Could you provide this service to yourself for better or cheaper? Support: Is the broker going to be there if you need assistance? Is the broker giving you leads or training you how to do your job? If so, could you procure your own leads for cheaper? Split: Are you paying your broker simply for the sake of having your license hung there- or is the brokerage doing anything to justify taking 20,30,40 or even 50% of your commission?

It’s your money, you worked for it, and you deserve to keep it. Isn’t it great keeping 100% of your commission with Allison James Estates and Homes? Do you remember feeling the sting of being a split with your brokerage? Please share this with other agents! Commission splits are a thing of the past!

When I first joined Allison James and heard about how agents receive a percentage of the plan fee of anyone they refer to the company, I was astonished. I had never heard of other real estate companies doing this for their agents. And as I began working here longer, it became apparent that these small things are what separate Allison James from the rest of the Real Estate brokerages out there. So please take advantage of this rare benefit and start referring all the agents you know to come work with Allison James. Now, that being said, the agent referral program will only work if you have provided us your bank account. We only pay on referrals through ACH transfer to your account. As an agent, it is your responsibility to notify me when you change or close your bank account, so that you can keep receiving your agent referral monies.

Did you know that when you close or change your bank account and the agent referral money we try to send to you gets kicked back to us, the bank charges us a fee for that? So as company policy, if you close or change your bank account and wait several months to update us, then you have forfeited those agent referral monies for those several months. Please be aware of what information we have on file for you, and if you ever are unsure or need to make changes to your account, I am only a phone call away and am happy to keep you updated and keep your agent referral monies rolling in.

If you need to change any information or update your bank account information on file to start receiving your agent referrals, please contact me, at (866) 463-5780 x3. Or you can email me at [email protected].

It is a Federal holiday honoring members of the United States Armed Forces who have died in war or while otherwise serving their country. It began as Decoration Day following the Civil War, because the living would honor the dead by decorating their graves. This tradition endures, especially at military cemeteries like Arling-ton National Cemetery where an American flag is placed on every single grave. In non-military cemeteries the fallen are likewise honored, usually by friends and relatives, but anyone is free to pay their respects to those who made the greatest possible sacrifice so that the rest of us can continue to do what we enjoy doing. The traditional time to visit cemeteries or war memorials is at 3PM local time on Memorial Day, which is Monday. U.S. flags will be flown at half-mast until noon. According to the US Government’s website, you can also “Pay tribute to the U.S. men and women who died during military service by observing a minute of silence at 3:00 PM, local time.” Memorial Day used to be held on May 30 regardless, and was moved to the last Monday in May in 1968 to create a three-day annual weekend. Interestingly there are those who oppose the weekend idea and advocate its return to fixed date, including the Veterans of Foreign War (VFW). In the 1980’s, Hawai-ian Senator Daniel Inouye, himself a WWII veteran, introduced legislation (unsuccessful) to return the original date.

The idea is that if Memorial Day was not simply a long weekend holiday for going to the beach and grilling, more Americans might actually realize that it has a deeper and much more somber meaning.To the members of the United States Armed Services, past and present, thank you for your service.

“The cost of freedom is always high, but Americans have always paid it. And one path we shall never choose, and that is the path of surrender, or submission.” John Fitzgerald Kennedy
