Edgar Allen Poe, master of horrors, ingenuity and actions, blurted out, “Lord, help my poor soul!” just before death sealed his lips forever. Another writer, Oscar Wilde, who lived his last years on borrowed money from friends, made this pathetic comment: “I am dying as I have lived, beyond my means.” Famous inventor, Thomas Edison, may have caught a glimpse of heaven just before he died. His final words were: “It’s very beautiful over there.” It was not uncommon before the days of sedation in the form of drugs for people to have experiences of the afterlife both good and horrible, as they were dying. Some had foretastes of heaven and others, sadly, of hell. Thankfully, those of us who know Christ as Savior have no need to fear what is beyond death. We rather look forward to meeting our dear Savior face to face and entering into the future of joy that will be ours in that glorious place which He has prepared for us. How true and comforting are the words of the song, “What a Day That Will Be.” “What a day that will be, When my Jesus I shall see, And I look upon His face, The One who saved me by His grace; When He takes me by the hand, And leads me through the Promised Land, What a day, glorious day that will be.” CHARLES H. DAVIS SR. ADULT PASTOR I am thankful for my Christian Mother, who has gone on to be with the LORD, and for the Mother of my children. - Bro. Charles
