Starting May 19, 2014, residents can recycle more household items using Richmond’s Blue Box and Blue Cart Recycling programs. There are also changes in how residents will be asked to sort their recyclable items. The City will be sending new materials to your home to help you participate in this expanded program.

BLUE CART RECYCLING SERVICE
City of Richmond
Thanks to a partnership with industry, Richmond is expanding
recycling collection services for all residents.
The new program changes how residents sort their recycling plus expands the types of materials
residents can recycle. Starting the week of May 19th, more types of plastic containers, milk cartons,
paper and plastic drink cups, flower pots and spiral-bound tins like frozen concentrate containers
can be recycled. This expanded program will help residents divert more materials from the garbage
and contribute toward 70% waste diversion by 2015.
Blue Cart Expanded Program:
NEW: Combine all your newsprint, flattened cardboard and paper product items into the
newly labelled Mixed Paper Recycling Cart.
NEW: Place any glass bottles and jars into the new Glass Recycling Cart.
EXPANDED: Use the Containers Recycling Cart for all recyclable containers including many
new items added through this expanded program.
BLUE CART RECYCLING GUIDE: See a complete list of new items accepted for recycling,
how to sort materials and frequently asked questions.

DID YOU KNOW?Styrofoam and plastic bags can be taken to the Richmond Recycling Depot (5555 Lynas Lane) for recycling.
WHAT’S NEW?Starting the week of May 19th, Richmond is expanding its Blue Box and Blue Cart recycling programs. This expanded program will help residents divert more materials from the garbage and contribute toward 70% waste diversion by 2015.
Residents will be able to recycle many new items such as aerosol containers, paper and plastic drink cups, milk cartons, gable top containers used for soy milk and juice, plastic and paper garden pots and bakery trays, along with many more items. By recycling more, residents are helping to divert waste from disposal which in turn saves on landfill disposal costs.
Thanks to partnership with industry (Multi-Material BC), the responsibility for residential recycling programs are shifting to producers making companies responsible for the waste they produce.
