VERTICAL ORIENTATIONSSKYLIGHT (0°)ORIENTATION

SLOPEDORIENTATION

1. Over the window opening: tape butcher paper or heavy wrapping paper, allowing plenty ofoverlap. A template can have no folds or creases: do not use paper that has ever been folded;

2. Draw an exact outline of the window opening by carefully tracing over the inside edge of thewindow frame.

3. Remove the paper from the window opening. Note: if the shade is an outside mount, add thedesired amount of overlap to the window outline and draw a second outline around it to matchthe shape of the finished shade.

4. Write down/mark the shade dimensions on the template. Double Check: check that thetemplate dimensions match your measurements of the actual window opening.

5. Properly label the template: identify the template and its orientation. Write the customerʼsname on the template, and mark the ROOM SIDE and TOP. Roll up the template and place itin a mailing tube to include with the order. Do not fold the template.

Measuring Instr uct ions

Specialty Shapes

Rectangular Shades Include: • Standard Rectangular • Top Down / Bottom Up• Day/Night • Two Shades on a Headrail• Cord Loop

Measuring procedures are the same for all of theabove styles.

Inside Mount or Outside MountHow you take your measurements will varydepending upon whether the shade fits within thewindow opening (inside mount or IB) or overlaps the window opening outside mount or OB).

"Supplying" Your MeasurementsDimensions on the order form should be rounded to the nearest 1/8". With inside mounts, always rounddown to the nearest 1/8". Rounding up could result in a shade that is too wide to fit within the windowopening.

Arches and CirclesIncluded in this category are arch, circle, andquarter circle. Similar rules for measuringrectangular shades apply to arches and circles,as well.

For inside mounts, measure the exact widthand height inside the window opening. Foroutside mounts, measure the desired widthand height. Always measure the height at itstallest point.

With perfect arches and circles, the heightwill either equal the width (circle and quartercircle) or equal one half the width (arch). With imperfect arches, these simpleheight/width relationships do not occur. Templates Required

Whether an arch is perfect or imperfect, atemplate must be sent with the order.Templates are also required with angles andspecialty shades. Guidelines for preparingtemplates are shown on page 6.

AnglesWith angles, either the top or bottom of theshade is sloped, or angled. All four sides mustbe measured to ensure accurate fabrication.Measure the inside of the window opening forinside mounts. When measuring for outside mounts, rememberto add the desired amount of overlap. In thediagram below, the vertical measurements arelabeled "LH" for left height and "RH" for rightheight. The horizontal measurements arelabeled "S" for slope and "W" for width. The"slope angle" is the angle between the slopeand a horizontal line. The angle is measured indegrees using a protractor. Record all yourmeasurements on the template you create forthe shade. Use the tallest height measurementwhen pricing the shade.

Measuring for Inside MountsWidth - Measure exactwindow/door width (A & B) inthree (3) places from the inside ofthe window frame to the centre ofthe mullion. Measure the windowsfrom left to right. Use thenarrowest dimension. Measure overall width ofarea to be covered. The factory will make thenecessary 1/8" deduction from width for operatingclearance.

Height - Measure exact height (A & B) of thewindow/door in two (2) places. Measure thewindow from left to right. Use the shortestdimension.

Measuring for Outside MountsWidth - Measure exactwindow/door width (A & B) fromthe window frame to the center ofthe mullion. Measure the windowsfrom left to right. Add 1 1/2"minimum overlap to outside edgesof both. Measure overall width of area to becovered.

Height - Measure exact height from the top of thewindow frame to the floor. Add a minimum overlap of 1 1/2" to the top of the frame, if shade reaches floor or sill. Add1/1/2" to bottom of all other windows.

Skylight Shade With Side Channels The rules for measuring these types of window openings are identical to those for standard rectangularshades. For inside mounts, measure the width and height at three locations inside the window opening.Order the narrowest width and the shortest height. For outside mounts, measure the desired height andwidth, allowing for an appropriate amount of overlap.

Rectangular Shades

THE IMPORTANCE OF ACCURATE MEASUREMENTS:• Firstly, the measurements are used to price the shade. • Secondly, the measurements are used to custom fabricate your shade to the specified required size. • Thirdly, the measured dimensions supplied on the order form must be correct for the shade to

properly fit the window opening.
