Highway Infill: Fill is also used to create a connective tissue that reduces the fragmentation of the site due to the presence of multiple highways. The section below shows how infilling between the highways creates oppo-runities to journey across, in between and along the highway from an elevated vantage point.

The shoreline along the humber bay is unique as it is entirely made of fill; the act of filling to create lagoons draws on the history of the site with a view to the future. Erosion is a serious problem due to wave action, causing land loss and loss of beach material. The lagoons will solve sand loss by protecting beach front.

Lagoons: The Humber river expels significant amounts of pollution causing beaches to be frequently closed. Enclosed lagoons allow for bathing to occur all year (water quality is ensured through lakewater filtration) and serve many different functions such as fish habitat, boating and hot baths. Each lagoon provides a different experience adding to the overall character of the park.

The lagoons are created through the deposition of local fill over time. This is also an economic enterpise as contrac-tors must pay to dump their fill.

Ecology: Hyde Park just to the north is famous for its

extremely rare oak savannah. This project attempts a seam-

les integration into the currently existing ecology. A

burn regime is instituted depending on the desired

ecology, ranging from prairies to oak forest. As a result, main-

tenance regimes play a vital role shaping spatial character-

Personal StatementI remember clearly when I truly felt in awe of nature. I was six years old and my family and I had gone to a Birch

forest in Normandy. Perhaps as a child everything seemed larger than life; even so, I remember staring up at one particular tree, enthralled by the towering trunk and the branches that seemed to extend infinitely into the sky.

Ever since, the natural world has captivated me with its endless colours, shapes and patterns. My work stems from my fascination with life and, it is that sentiment that I hope to impart unto others.
