Simple and profound practices to remember that we are all deserving humans who want to feel better and do well in the world. TheWell.World [email protected] Max Raphael Tuning in Activity Lets start simply and gently. Place your hands on your body – I like to put one hand on my belly, just below the navel, and the other hand at the center of my chest. Let your belly, shoulders, and any other tense places soften a little. Breathing in through your nose, fill your belly with a nice deep breath, so it expands like a balloon. Exhale through your nose with the sound “hmmmm.” Make your “hmm” the tone of a restful sigh, with a pitch from high to low. Take yet another deep breath and repeat, making your hum audible during the entire exhale, spanning your whole vocal range. Exaggerate the sound and let it feel really good—dare I say delicious! Then, reverse the pitch of your “hmmm” so that your voice goes from low to high, and then back down to low, all in one breath. Try this a couple of times, letting the sound smoothly rise and fall. Usually, there is one pitch or note, that feels especially good. You’ll know when you find it. Let your voice rest there, and hum your healing note on at least three big, soothing exhales. Continue more times, if you like. If possible, do this whole exercise with your eyes closed, or at least these last few hums. Whenever you feel finished (once again, you’ll know when), rest for a moment and breathe normally with your hands still on your body. Notice your internal state, however you are feeling. Release your hands and come back to your here and now. How did that feel? With this activity, you can use sound to quickly insert moments of ease into your every day. You might find it helpful to do in the car, when you wake up or go to sleep. You may even try making sounds to help calm your nerves, unwind strong emotions, or ease physical pain right in the moment. As I mentioned, I use it when I realize I’m stuck on the hamster wheel in my head. I love to guide people in this simple activity at the beginning of the sound healing sessions I offer. It’s a beautiful way to “set the tone“ for an activity, and invites us to begin sensing vibration not only with our ears, but our whole body. This invites us to bring our whole self to any occasion. In fact, I did this exercise myself before writing these words. I found I really needed it, too! Thank you for sharing this journey with me, in this article and whenever else we’ve met. Now, please share those good vibrations in you with the beautiful world around us!
