BIM…definition ?
BIM…definition ?
‘BIM is essentially value creating collaboration through the entire life-cycle of an asset, underpinned by the creation, collation and exchange of shared 3D models and intelligent, structured data attached to them’

BIM…what it is (I think !)
• BIM is a (mindset) shift in current working practices • BIM is essentially ‘value creating’ collaboration through ....the entire project lifecycle • The process of creating a computer model of a building ….project that can be used to design, analyse, build, ….manage, refurbish and even demolish that building ….including EVERYTHING in it & attributed to it
• BIM = Building Information Modelling
or better still…
• BIM = Better Information Management
BIM…what it isn’t

It’s not just 3D
It’s not just a new technology application
It’s not ‘next generation’,
it’s here NOW
It’s not just CAD
It’s not just..!
BIM…why ?
• Growing population • Erratic economical environment • Sustainable development
• More complex projects • Higher expectations • Adapt to digitisation
Future proofing... the FUTURE !

European Parliament
All 28 member states now have the green light to encourage, specify or mandate similar measures (to those of the UK) for publicly-funded construction and building projects by 2016
The European Parliament voted to support a package of reforms to the EU Public Procurement rules to recommend the use of electronic tools, including BIM, on public works contracts.
The new directive can be found within the Official Journal of the Europen Union (OJEU) Volume 57, dated 28th March 2014.
Article 22 (Rules applicable to communication) section 4: For public works contracts and design contests, Member States may require the use of specific electronic tools, such as of building information electronic modelling tools or similar
