Introduction of Cabinet
'Divergent' - a word emulating our passion and dedication towards math both in the math and
non-math realms; a word that gives faith and promise on the improvement among all of the
aspects encompassing an ideal society. Consisting of 6 members, 'Divergent' hopes to work to
the betterment of the Society. With unique ideas of 'study techniques sharing', 'Problem
Garden' ,'competition’, among many others, the proposed cabinet will bring our society to the
forge to reinforce and promote our academic interests while safeguarding the traditions and
fun/ leisurely activities of the past.
Chairman
Name: Au Yuk Hung, Alan
Intended major: Mathematics
I am enthusiastic to join the Society with all my fellows to bring some positive revolutions to our Members. We hope that when our Members think of their studies, their jobs, and having fun, they would think of the Society. I hope our cabinet can successfully work as a team to achieve our objectives, which is to bring positive influences to our Members.
Internal Vice Chairman
Name: Jeremy Nicholas Sebastian Chan, Jeremy
Intended major: Mathematics and Decision Analytics
I have always envisioned my dream: to funnel my energies into my passion for mathematics, and also to make a thousand leaders of myself if I have to, so I can improve my confidence and team management abilities. I realized that I have a lot more to offer than I have to keep, so I have decided to take up a leadership post in the Mathematics Society, because I want to add academic value into the Society and to transform it into a more user friendly Society. I have worked closely with this team for quite a while now, and I am learning about managing people everyday, my strengths are my communication and clear vision: I want to lead the team and have good results.
External Vice Chairman
Name: Tejaskumar Ramesh, Tejas
Intended major: Mathematics and Physics
The wonders of Math have always intrigued me. It is very likely to see more glory in this subject by being a part of the Society. Given the opportunity to form the Executive Committee for the session 2016-2017, I would like to transform the Society into that which provides long-lasting welfares to its Members. I plan to effectively use this chance to be the External Vice-chairman to allow my confidence in general and passion for the subject to encourage the Members to do research and develop intuition - the important step in becoming a good mathematician.
4
General Secretary
Name: Zhang Tianyi, Zoe
Intended major: Mathematics
Mathematics fascinates me because of the abstract but logic thinking process hidden behind the numbers. I believe this is the essence as well as the beauty of maths, and that everyone can appreciate and grasp it regardless of his/her major. I want to join the mathematics society because I want more people to have less prejudice against maths and gradually find the fun in maths through our various activities. I love trying new things, which is also why I want to be a member of the excos. I hope this year we can bring revolutionary changes to our society to benefit more students.
Financial Secretary
Name: Yeung Zi Ngai, Wilson
Intended major: Physics and Astronomy
I speak Cantonese and English. I like the post as a Financial Secretary. it is because I like organising data so that the viewers can have more understanding in terms of how the money is spent, for any extra dollars it is very important to which, what and where to utilise to provide the most efficient way to run the Society.
Marketing and welfare secretary
Name: Wu Shaoyi, Sophie
Intended major: Economics and Mathematics
Mathematics has always been a subject full of surprises, which helps explain most basic things in our daily life using a few principles. I speak Mandarin and English. I’m currently an economics and finance student, which is why I’m interested in marketing. I want to try my best to strive for more practical benefits for our members, especially in Mathematics study.
