This is when connections are made. Experi-ences are shared. Decisions, big and small, are made. We as people are dependent on each other to develop and drive processes forward. This is an inspiring thought for us at Materia. We have always taken it upon ourselves to identify the needs that arise when people meet in new ways and in new circumstances.

We never just start a design with a beautiful shape. Our philosophy means that people’s needs are our starting point. Fundamentally it has to do with obvious facts. Those who enjoy being where they work do a better job and stay longer. Communication between people works

better if we create areas that make it easy to meet. And through innovative design with a focus on the room, rather than just the individual pieces of furniture, we can promote active and result- based meetings.

This product overview shows some concrete examples of what we mean. Among the innovations introduced is Frame, an easy chair that encloses its sitter and creates a feeling of space while shutting out the surroundings. Clip is also an exciting piece of furniture which is neither a table, chair nor an easy chair. Or perhaps it is all of these at once? Design meets 2014. Welcome.

The world is formed through meetings.

The furniture we are introducing in 2014 are an exclusive bunch. Not just in terms of beautiful design. And at the same time they are more than smart problem solvers. Before we manufacture and sign our name to a product, we examine it from every angle. Turning and twisting it. Inquisitive. Only few pass our stringent demands.

Frame was inspired by picture frames. Point has a shape that is strong and full of character with many combination options. Clip exists in the periphery between many pieces of furniture as a link between sofas and desks. Hub has arm-rests that can also be used as worktops. Neo’s organic shape gives it a strong identity and an inviting feel. Air is a chair and easy chair hybrid where the back and seat are designed from one single component – a meeting of the sharp, straight and sweeping lines. Elephant is inspired by circus stools and always puts its best face forward. And finally, the Le Mur seat landscape range is extended with the introduction of a compartment model and matching table.

Design meets the soul.

2014 marks the start of an exciting collaboration with Ola Giertz. Ola graduated with a degree from the Carl Malmsten Furniture Studies college in 2010. Simplicity and graphical expression are elements Ola focuses on in his designs. By giving life to daydreams and letting fantasy and reality meet, the creative thoughts often lead to an inter-esting design process which aims at finding new approaches and solutions.

Ola’s contribution to Materia’s 2014 range is called Frame. Its simple rectangular shape produces a stunning piece of furniture that contributes to a creative and inspiring atmos-phere thanks to its versatility. You can sit in the middle like on a stool. Or straddle it and use one side as a backrest. Unlike regular seats, Frame has a top as well as sides that enclose the sitter. It shuts out the surroundings and gives you the feeling of your own space.

This year’s newcomer: Ola Giertz.
