STRONG AND DURABLE

History and Overview

In 1985 Pultron worked with DuPont, Australia to develop a reinforcement system that addressed the shortfalls of steel. In 1990 Pultron worked in conjunction with BHP to develop a world first technology combining pultrusion and extrusion. The resulting product was a reinforcement system to stabilize high movement rock & coal seams, dramatically improving mine safety in difficult geotechnical conditions.

Since then Pultron has worked with various companies, developing FRP reinforcement specific to their requirements. Ongoing R&D projects ensure that Pultron is at the leading edge of technology.

The Mateen product line is the ideal product line that delivers high performing corrosion resistant reinforcement suited perfectly for many applications where steel falls short.

Sigma DG Corporation partnered with Pultron Composites LTD in 2010 to bring the Mateen product line to the Western Hemisphere.

Since the partnership was formed, the Mateen brand has expanded from MateenBar™ to also include the MateenDowel™ and MateenBolt™.

The difference in performance (both mechanical and durability properties) is attributable to the resin and glass systems used for each bolt type. The permanent MateenBolt™ is made from a high durability epoxy backboned resin matrix and E-CR glass making it perfect for long term installations and/or corrosive environments. The temporary bolt is made with value in mind for the end user not needing a highly durable bolt, but a cutable bolt. To accomplish this, the temporary bolt uses a high grade polyester blended resin and e-glass which is suitable for installations which will last less than 2 years.

MateenBolt™ AdvantagesMateenBolt™ was designed not to be just another fiberglass rock dowel. Pultron purposely created a one of a kind grinding machine to precision machine the threads on the MateenBolt giving it the strongest composite nut pull off strength in the world.

To further separate MateenBolt™ from the competition, these bolts are available fully threaded up to 40 feet in length. This allows the cut pieces to still have useable threads!

MateenBar™ is formulated and manufactured to the edge of the theoretical limits of the glass and resins from which it is made.

MateenBar™ is made from corrosion resistant E-CR glass supplied by Owens Corning and an epoxy backboned resin matrix making it highly durable in the most corrosive environments.

All Mateen FRP is manufactured to the highest quality standards under ISO 9001.

MateenBar has been perfected by over 25 years of ongoing R&D to perform in the harshest environments. It has superior physical characteristics to most any GFRP made and is produced near the theoretical limits of the resin and glass.

MateenBar™ is made from the highest quality epoxy backboned resin matrix and e-cr glass which gives it unparalleled durability and unquestionable quality.

The typical purpose of a smooth dowel is to distribute, resist, and/or transfer shear forces. Because of this, it is critically important to have the highest possible shear strength.

The table below compares shear testing of 3 typical GFRP dowel bars from different manufacturers as well as the MateenDowel™. The test of the 3 GFRP dowels from various manufacturers was conducted and published in a 2001 ACI publication by Eddie et al. The MateenDowel™ double shear test was conducted by a 3rd party testing facility.

The MateenDowel™ outperformed the strongest GFRP dowel by 30 percent in double shear testing.

For specification language, see page 15.

MateenDowel™ AdvantagesMateenDowel™ is a superior corrosion resistant and cost effective dowel as compared to any type of steel dowel currently approved for use today.

Additionally, the ability of GFRP to distribute cyclical loading forces more efficiently than steel and a modulus more closely matching concrete, allows the MateenDowel to work in conjunction with the concrete, lowering the overall stresses within the concrete giving joints longer service life.
