Creativity is not exclusive to artists, poets and geniuses It is an inherent ability in humans. The development of society would not be possible without creativity.
Creative and Innovative People – Characteristics
#TFNOpenMind
It is a trainable skill. This training requires to unlearn: • stereotyped behaviors • mental blocks • external pressure
Creative and Innovative People – Characteristics
#TFNOpenMind
Creativity can not be found in a particular area is because there are so many forms of creativity and intelligence (Howard Gardner - Multiple Intelligences)

The creaBvity needs to manifest throughout the total brain, not just one part.
Creative and Innovative People – Characteristics
#TFNOpenMind
Convergent thinking should be the successor of divergent. Again, the creativity needed to manifest throughout the brain, not just one part.
Creative and Innovative People – Characteristics

What is Lateral Thinking? It is a method of thought that can be used as a technique for solving problems imaginative, indirect way with a creative approach. Lateral thinking is a specific way of organizing thinking processes, which seeks a solution through unorthodox strategies or algorithms, that would normally be ignored by logical thinking. Edward de Bono - "New Think: The Use of Lateral Thinking", 1967
Lateral Thinking
#TFNOpenMind
Lateral Thinking vs Vertical Thinking Vertical Thinking § Objective: find a solution § Selective § Logic correction of ideas § Needs direction in which to move § Follows the most obvious ways § Includes judgments or assessments § Information is used to its intrinsic value
eventually to reach a solution through inclusion in existing models.
Lateral Thinking § Objective: changing patterns § Creative § Effectiveness of the conclusions § Generates the direction § Follows less obvious ways § Dismiss judgments or assessments § Information is used, not as a goal, but as a
resource to cause a disintegration of the models and their subsequent automatic reconstruction of new ideas.
#TFNOpenMind
Problems Resolution • The basic principle of lateral thinking: any way to assess a situation is only
one of many possible ways of evaluating it.
Lateral Thinking
#TFNOpenMind
Problems Resolution • Lateral thinking does not deny the validity of the assumptions nor their
effectiveness: search only alternaBves to them, without aspiring to the fact that these are better alternatives.
Lateral Thinking
#TFNOpenMind
Problems Resolution • In the logic search for alternatives only those concepts that have some common
sense are considered. In the lateral thinking, alternaBves exempted from all common sense are also accepted.
Lateral Thinking
#TFNOpenMind
Problems Resolution • Innovation and creativity processes require progressive, forward, which can be
applied to the design of new ideas.

• Any criticism is prohibited
• Any idea is welcome
• So many ideas as possible
• The development and association of ideas is desirable
Common principles

Problems Resolution • Forced relationships • Analogies • Hypnagogic images • The 5 Whys • Six Thinking Hats • Creative imagination – Brainstorming

Creative technique: Hypnagogic images (M. Michalko. Thinker Toys) • It is to generate ideas through partnerships with hypnagogic
images. These can be visual or auditive.
• Salvador Dalí • How?
Ø Think of a creative goal Ø Relax the body Ø Leave blank mind Ø Calm eyes: do not try to look for images with the look but absent voluntary
attention. The images come from the unconscious. Ø Register experiences happen right after (perhaps unexpected images
suddenly disappear) Ø Search an associative link, ie note down what you think. Ask questions such
as: Is there a relationship with my goal? Any new perception? What analogies can I find?

Benefits • Quickly iden*fy the root cause of a problem • By solving the root cause, it can affect posi*vely solve other problems related • Helps save *me and save unnecessary energy or misdirected
Rules • Never ask "Who" • Do not obsess 5 • Avoiding %’s • Avoid preconcep*ons • Non-‐cri*cal situa*ons (quickly) • Gather as many data as possible about the problem to be analyzed • Focus on the highest possibili*es, not the endless possibili*es
