European hub of higher education in design, Istituto d’Arte Applicata e Design - IAAD is capable to fulfil the demand of the market for highly qualified designers thanks to its 35 years expertise in design education, its cross curricular approach and its international dimension with its branches in Italy and France. Thanks to the partnership signed in 2012 with the French Écoles de Condé, the group counts on over 5.000 students, 400 professors, 7 venues - 5 in France in Paris, Lyon, Nancy, Nice, Bordeaux and 2 in Italy (Torino and Bologna). An integrated system offering more than 30 courses ranging from Bachelor and Master courses, from transportation design to fashion and textile design, from restoration of cultural heritage to marketing and management of arts and design.In Italy, in Torino, the new academic year 2013-2014 began in the new IAAD premises inside the future Lavazza headquarter, with 3.000 square meters available for didactic, with spaces for expositions and conferences.

According to IAAD, design is "project culture", a cultural and intellectual process founded on the core idea that in order to create a serious and prepared professional it is mandatory to unite the rigor of academic research with a practical, experimental method based on planning, and typical of advanced professional training. This methodological approach has proven to be the best in creating successful professionals, as demonstrated by the brilliant careers of

numerous IAAD alumni over the course of 35 years. In terms of concepts, projects and style, IAAD's philosophy is to address the great tradition of Italian design, whose cultural and industrial value is recognized all over the world.

IAAD was born in 1978 with the objective of offering a new approach to training and education, by analyzing creative professionalisms effectively required by the job market and structuring specific learning paths. IAAD, through the years, has remodeled its educational offers numerous times, and is also doing so today with considerable commitment, addressing an historical moment characterized by deep cultural and socioeconomic transformations. Specifically, technological evolution is quickly redesigning the whole range of "creative jobs".

IAAD department of “Car Body Architecture” first in Italy opened in Turin in 1978. Since 2008 it is entitled in memory of Andrea Pininfarina.

The specialization in Transportation design deals with the study of the main means of transport with a focus on mobility systems and environmental sustainability.Turin is the undisputed world capital of automotive design and one of the centres of excellence in the international automotive industry: the great Italian production of Fiat, Lancia, Alfa Romeo and Ferrari, the design of Giugiaro and Pininfarina, Bertone, the automotive innovation of Centro Ricerche Fiat, the robotic technologies of DEA, Comau and Rambaudi, the innovation of Oxygen (electric alternative mobility), not to mention an enormous satellite activities that serves not only Fiat, but almost all of the major car manufacturers in Europe and the world. To confirm this today also Chinese design companies choose Turin as European seat. Thanks to this important supply chain, IAAD Transportation design department is flanked by a pool of important partner companies both public and private, which contribute to the activation of research projects, special lectures, workshops and seminars, company visits, educational activities and internships.

IAAD have always had the goal of providing an innovative approach to training: the best way to become a professional in transportation is being apprenticed to learn from experts in the field. With this insight, IAAD is the first Italian university of higher education specializing in transportation design.The design work done in collaboration with IAAD partner companies which allow students to put into practice what they study in an environment very close to what they will encounter in the professional field. IAAD Master courses, thanks to this educational philosophy, are a perfect incubator for tomorrow’s talent, responding directly to the needs and market trends. To train young professionals within the educational programme, IAAD recreates what happens in the professional world. One of the hallmarks of the method IAAD is the constant collaboration with leading companies in the sector for the realization of joint projects. Converging in the projects both the needs of the partner companies and educational goals, creates a situation doubly favorable aspiring designers have the opportunity to work with industry leaders and these ones can monitor future talents to be included in their companies. TRANSPORTATION DESIGN DEPARTMENTSTRATEGIC COORDINATORLuciano BoveBorn in Nocera Inferiore in 1963, he graduated at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena in Transportation Design in 1989, for 12 years he’s been working at the Fiat Style Center becoming responsible for the design of the project Fiat Seicento. In 2000 he left Fiat Auto anh he got the role of Senior Design Manager at Renault design center in Technocentre, in Guyancourt - France. The most significant project is the management of the New Kangoo. Since 2006 he is member of the Committee for the Design Schools of Renault. During his career, he has also taught in some of the most prestigious design schools in Europe.

TRANSPORTATION DESIGN MASTER COORDINATORMarco VendrameHe graduated in Industrial Design in 1992 and after several years of profession in 1999 he moved to California for a master’s degree in Transportation Design at Art Center College of Design in Pasadena. Between 2000 and 2001 he’s been working as a freelance in England at the studio Design and Realizations near Oxford. Since 2001 he was hired as a designer by the Volkswagen group in the main study in Wolfsburg, until January 2012, when he returned to Italy to work in Italdesign, now part of Audi-Lamborghini group.

The faculty of the Department of Transportation Design IAAD is mainly composed of professionals belonging to specific areas of teaching.

Volkswagen, Italdesign Giugiaro, Pininfarina, Bertone, Fiat Group - Abarth, Alfa Romeo, CFR, Fiat, Lancia, Maserati - Ducati, Renault, Ferrari, Honda, Jac, Yamaha, Lamborghini, Piaggio, Chang’an Motors are some of the companies that collaborate with IAAD through lectures, special projects, contests and internship courses.

VISITING PROFESSORSIAAD believes in the value of cultural and experiential contamination, opening the doors of the university to professionals known nationally and internationally, experts who contribute to the didactic, leading workshops, seminars and lectures. Students will have the unique opportunity to interact with "gurus" of the sector, who will join IAAD faculty as Visiting Professors.

PRELIMINARY MODULE MAIN THEMESHistory of car designThe evolution of car design, its milestones an analysis of its relationship with the socio-economic changes of the 20th century.

Representation techniquesThe manual representation is in transportation design a basic tool for the design and presentation. During the course different types of representation are taught, primarily freehand using pencils, pens, Pantone and Copic markers.

3D digital modelling The course has as its main objective the learning of the main software used in the field of automotive industryfor the creation of virtual models in 3D. The course is devoted to understanding the functionality of the software through simple exercises.

Transportation design Methodological basic course for the design of a car. Through the definition and development of the project, will be presented a conceptual and stylistic research first on sketches, finally with manual renderings. The simulation is finalized to learn the main milestones of the project of a motor vehicle.

Design methodologyThrough the development of a design Car Design, students will be put in confrontation with the specificity of the topic.

Architecture and aerodynamics of the vehicleThe course is focused on proper functional setting of the volume and style of the vehicle, through the acquisition of knowledge related to the structure, mechanical bodies, by examining the dynamics of the main aerodynamic functions, the mechanical and structural components, with an overview of the historical evolution of aerodynamics and vehicle systems.

Digital sketchingAdobe Photoshop is the study topic, for the realization of sketches, realistic images and editing.

ErgonomicsThe course addresses the theoretical, technical and practical ergonomics to prevent discomfort and provide plus ergonomic aspects of a project.

OBTAINING 60 ECTS CREDITSIn order to obtain 60 ECTS credits the student is required to develop a project to present during the final stage of the course and to pass a TOEIC language test. The student will also be able to personalize his or her study plan by participating in sector contests, seminars or additional project works in order to obtain the free credits necessary to pass Preliminary.

to target customers. Besides this business awareness of their work, IAAD students must acquire the capability to present themselves and showcase their works in order to demonstrate their skills. The Master Module in Transportation Design is designed to train highlevel designers who, once finished the studies, can start their own career.

MASTER MODULE MAIN THEMESTransportation design - ExteriorStudy of style, volumes and proportions of the exterior of a car. During the course, students are confronted with a brief from which they will develop the stages of brainstorming, the identification and development of concepts through sketching and rendering, until they get to the final presentation of the project.

Transportation design - InteriorThe goal is the acquisition of the ability to design multiple types of interiors from a given brief and respecting the stylistic constraints of the chosen brand. Particular attention will be paid to the choice of materials.

Transportation design - Sustainable mobilityThe course is conceived to provide a useful design methodology to address in a systematic and structured design of transport designed to be sustainable both from environmental, social and economic points of view.

The main objective of our master programme is to create appealing professionals for car-makers and design studios, professionals able to make breakthroughs in the transportation industry and set the stage for the future of motor-transportation.

IAAD’s aspiration is to work as an innovation hub, a place where designers are trained in a continuous interchange of theoretical and practical didactic phases. Therefore, allowing them to understand andmanage all the stages of a car design project.

IAAD Master module is truly about design, but not only. We want to prepare students for being active players in the professional contexts they will face once graduated, they must develop a critical sensibility towards the broader issue of the business implications of their ideas and how they relate to a brand image, to the long term goals of a company and to how

ThesisEach edition of the course foresees the development of a thesis project in collaboration with a partner company. The design process is developed through a first briefing with the company and subsequent meetings of interim presentation and comparison with the designer references the partner company involved until the final discussion of the thesis. In previous editions of the Master’s thesis project was developed in collaboration with Centro Ricerche Fiat, Lancia Style Centre, Italdesign Giugiaro - Volkswagen Group, Porsche, Pininfarina.

During the academic year, IAAD organizes educational visits at companies, design centers, museums and exhibitions, special workshops, meetings with designers of particular importance (any costs for travel and entrance fees will be paid by the student).

JOBPLACEMENT SERVICEIn order to allow students to have access to the best opportunities in the creative professional job market, IAAD oversees contacts between students and the professional world, promoting their graduates and master graduates with the main players in the market. Thanks to a relation network with the reference environment, IAAD possess a regularly updated company database. These companies are in constant contact for the selection of young talent to place in their structures.

Motorbike and scooter designThe fundamentals of 2-3 wheelers design, from ergonomics to colors, graphics, finishes and styles in the design of the motorcycle.

Marketing Market segmentation, consumer behavior and brand analysis are three basic tools to guide the work of the designer. Thanks to the course, students will be able to evaluate a design process and design in the light of the analysis tools typical of marketing.

3D digital modellingThe course has as its main objective the learning of software used in the automotive industry for the creation of virtual models in 3D. Students will be engaged in the creation of the first virtual models, until the completion of the thesis.

Presentation techniquesPresentation techniques for effective visual communication projects through proper organization of content.

Portfolio The portfolio is the first instrument in which a candidate is presented to professionals in the automotive world. The course is aimed at the transmission of skills for structuring a presentation portfolio that reflects in a comprehensive and coherent way the capabilities of the student.

ADMISSION PROCEDUREApplications need to be submitted by 15 September 2015, via e-mail or traditional mail.

Applications have to contain these documents:- Curriculum Vitae- Cover letter- Portfolio

The Master Coordinator, assisted by an academic board will evaluate the candidacies received.IAAD reserves the right to ask the candidate, when deemed necessary, an additional interview at the head office or via Skype. The result of the application will be communicated by the Career Guidance Office to each candidate. SCOLARSHIPSIAAD offers 5 scholarships to be assigned to candidates according to curriculum and portfolio evaluation.

The available scholarships are:- 1 worth 100% the tuition fee- 2 worth 50% the tuition fee- 2 worth 20% the tuition fee

Enrolment fee and eventual EABHES tax stay at the student's expense.

REQUIREMENTS AND ADMISSION PROCEDURESPreliminary ModuleGraduates in Industrial Design, Automotive Engineering and related subjects, holders of a postgraduate diploma in Industrial and Transportation Design and candidates who have gained significant professional experience in the field of transportation can access the Preliminary Module. Admission is subject to the assessment of the application, to be submitted by letter of application, curriculum vitae and portfolio. IAAD reserves the right to request the candidates, if necessary, an interview in person or via Skype.

Master ModuleAccess to the Master Module from Preliminary is subject to the attainment of 60 ECTS credits of Preliminary Module. For the attainment of 60 ECTS credits, students will be required to develop a project-work to be presented in the final stage of the Preliminary Module and the overcoming of TOEIC test. Students can customize their curricula with participation in contests, seminars or workshops to collect additional credits necessary for overcoming the Preliminary Module. Graduates in Transportation Design or who have gained significant experience in the Transportation Design or modelling can access the Master Module. Admission to the course is in both cases possible only with the approval of the Coordinator of the course based on the assessment of academic qualifications, professional resume and portfolio.

Scholarships will be assigned to the top 5 students in the Preliminary application ranking, and will be confirmed for the Master module prior the passing of all Preliminary exams with a minimum 27/30 average. Scholarships will be awarded with merit criteria from a board selected from the Direction and from the Master Program Coordinator.
