Changes to the PACE Learning Management System

The PACE system was revised with a new look and changes for functionality and security. This document will give you an overview of the most significant changes.

New Login ScreenThe first change you will see is a new login screen.

All users will login with their current PACE user ID and password. This revised login screen has the following functional changes.

Login error messages are now more prominently displayed The users will only have to login once to access the correct domain. Previously some users

experienced an issue where they were asked to login twice if they did not select the correct domain URL. All users should be able to use the general https://www.pace.state.ma.us URL to login.

New PACE Main InterfaceThe main PACE interface page has changed. The look of the page was changed to provide important information to a user on the first page the user sees after logging in to the system. In place of the navigation screen with the outline of Massachusetts as a background, the system now presents the user with any mandatory training that they have been assigned, a link to their transcript, and announcements that have been posted by the site administrators.

The major changes are: The functions accessed from the yellow tabs at the top of the page have been moved to either

the left navigation bar or the drop down menu. The buttons on the left now use a consistent look in place of the combination of buttons and

links. The name of the domain currently being accessed by the user is now shown in prominent text at

the top of the screen. This replaces the image based domain identification in the original version.

The size of the drop down menu for navigation was made larger. A new button for “Top Learning Resources” in now available. This button sends users to a page

that lists the top external learning resources as defined by HRD administrators and individual domain administrators.

The button text has changed to be more representative of the function being accessed. “Personal KC” was changed to “Knowledge Center”, “Student Learning Center” was changed to “Course Catalog”, and “Teaming Center” was changed to “Team Room”

Since the “Learning Cafe” button was infrequently accessed it was removed. The functions accessed with this button (Quick Sites, Newsletters, and Peernet) are still available in the drop down menu at the top of the screen.

The yellow FEEDBACK tab has been replaced by a button labelled “Assistance”. The yellow tabs for INDEX and HELP have been moved to the drop down menu. The HOME and LOGOUT functions have moved from yellow tabs at the top of the page to the

left navigation section. The yellow tabs labeled INFO, GLOSSARY, and NOTEPAD were removed. The INFO tab did not

provide any useful information. The GLOSSARY was not populated with any information in the PACE database. The NOTEPAD function was used very few times since PACE was originally rolled out. Most of the uses of the NOTEPAD function were tests.

Password ResetsThe password reset web page has a new look but the process remains similar. To access the password reset page click the “Forgot Password?” link on the main login page. The user must provide their PACE user ID and the email address stored in the PACE database. The email address stored in PACE is the same one used by the HR/CMS system or for users that are not in the Commonwealth’s HR/CMS system

(vendors and certain contractors) it is the email address that was specified when your PACE account was created. One significant change is that the PACE system will no longer sends the actual current password in an email to the user. The system will now generate a random 8 character temporary password that will need to be changed after logging into the system.

Performance and Career Enhancement~ Set your own PACE ~

When the user logs in with this new temporary password they will be required to change the password immediately. The PACE system previously allowed short passwords that were not compliant with the Commonwealth’s password standards. All PACE password must now comply with more stringent password rules.

New Default Page ViewThe default view for the Administration, Library, Course Catalog, and Team Room has changed. The old view had a picture of a person and the options in large buttons on the left side of the screen. This has been replaced with folders. Folders that contain sub menus will have those sub menus appear if the mouse is allowed to hover over the folder.

This view can be changed back to the original view by selecting the Knowledge Center button, selecting the User Interface tab, clicking the radio button labelled “I wish to use the graphical user interface.” , and finally pressing the submit button.

Top Learning ResourcesA new feature provides a curated list of e-learning and other useful resources that can be found on sites external to PACE. This list is created by the Human Resources Division (HRD) PACE administrators with the option of also having items provided by departmental PACE domain administrators. Items added by departmental PACE domain administrators only appear to user in that department.
