The May Meeting Presenter was Elaine Nudd.
Elaine welcomed the members into her home on a warm and sunny evening.
Members were treated to a warm greeting, a friendly home, Chips and Dips,
Drinks and Elaine’s signature Strawberry Shortcake
I know that for me, going to the Gurnet is always a special adventure and we
are truly blessed to be able to enjoy Elaine’s home for our meetings and cookouts.
Whenever I go out to the Gurnet, I am amazed
how unique the trip is. We start our journey traveling over the
longest wooden bridge in America, then we continue our
excursion along the long winding dirt roads with the ultimate
goal of arriving at Elaine’s home, all the while witnessing the
outstanding ocean and marsh views as far as the eye can see !
It does not get much better than this !
The Massasoit Chapter was treated to an outstanding presentation from Elaine on “Old New England
Maps.” an extra treat for the evening was watching the sunset from Elaine’s sunroom.

The Presentation for the Massasoit Chapter May Meeting was“The Stories Old Maps Can Tell”
I would like to make an apology to Elaine Nudd for my errors in the May Massasoit newsletter. There was misinformation printed in the Massasoit Chapter Newsletter and the Massachusetts Archeological Society Web-Page. This has been corrected.
This Description is directly from Elaine Nudd.
Elaine’s talk was about how
the boundary was established
between the Plymouth Colony
and the Mass. Bay Colony in 1639.
Starting at the "Angle Tree " in Attleboro
and continuing East to the coast.
The elders of the colonies met to decide
About Scituate's desire to include the
salt marshes in the Plymouth colony.
They met and very prayerfully agreed to
do this, and where they met has
thenceforth been called Accord
(now in the town of Hingham.)
The second part of Elaine’s presentation focused on a
map of Cape Cod that was formulated from a ship
in Massachusetts Bay and men on horseback on the shore
of Cape Code.
The map was designed at night using a surveyors sextant
mounted on the ship in the bay and men on land with
lanterns to position the marking Points on land.
