A Message From Father Gene:

Dear Friends,

May God’s amazing grace fill your hearts today.

This past week was filled with God’s amazing grace for my family as my niece Jolene and her husband

Nick delivered a 9 pound 6 oz. baby boy. Nicholas James Rogers Jr., came into the world on Tuesday,

April 3rd. As my brother-in-law the proud grandfather proclaimed he is a B.O.B.-Big Old Baby.

There were a few tense moments passing this B.O.B., from the warmth of his mother’s womb into this cold

challenging world but ready or not Nick Jr., has come into the world once again proclaiming God’s amazing

grace. My niece Jolene, who only two weeks before this walked in a four mile race, said that the eight

minutes of pushing were the hardest and most rewarding moments of her life. Nick Jr., joins his big sister

fifteen month old Ellen Marie and “Clifford” their big red dog.

We all have graced moments in our lives; times when God’s grace both frighten and overwhelm us. We

have to hold on to the moments and learn from them. The same graced moments occur when someone is

dying. In this Easter season we have to draw upon God’s amazing grace to understand the depth of the

mystery of Faith, the reality of suffering, death and resurrection. In the same way the human family em-

braces the nine month of “expecting” and preparing for the birth of a child, making the necessary sacrifices

for a healthy child so we embrace the time and effort required for being reborn into eternal life.

Jolene spoke of the time they placed her newborn on her chest, skin against skin, flesh against human

flesh. The baby was so still lying on his mother while his mother literally had to catch her breath, she was

fearful because she hadn’t heard the baby cry and didn’t know if the baby was breathing on his own. She

called for someone to lift the child to make sure that he was breathing, he was, God’s amazing grace was

filling the lungs of her newborn child. I believe that God, in the process of our physical dying is awaiting

that moment when we breathe our last breath on earth and our first breath in the Kingdom of Heaven.

During the reading of The Passion on Palm Sunday and Good Friday, the Church’s liturgy calls us to stop

and kneel as the Lord Jesus offers His last breath on earth.

I remember being at my Mother’s side when she gently breathed her last and I knew that she was safely

in the Kingdom of Heaven.

Our Easter time is a time of great hope and promise. Our Easter time is filled with Alleluia’s as we await in

joyful hope the fulfillment of The Promise of Salvation.

Blessed Easter.

CATHOLIC CLIMATE COVENANT TEAM

This weekend we celebrate the 48th anniversary of Earth Day,

o%en celebrated as a secular day. But our Holy Father, Pope

Francis, in his encyclical, "Laudato Si," is calling Catholics to a

greater care and concern for the earth and a greater care and

concern the poor, who are o%en more affected by climate

and earth care issues. This year a focus is being placed on the

overuse of single- use plas!cs, and how it contributes to what

Pope Francis calls a "Throwaway Culture." I am interested in

forming a Catholic Climate Covenant Team here at St Thomas.

The goal for this team: to explore the Pope's encyclical,

"Laudato, Si," and to sponsor some awareness events,

bulle!n ar!cles, and clean up projects and build community

ac!on and ac!vi!es. Check out this website to see some

wonderful resources ...www.earthday.org/campaign/plas!c-

campaign. From this year's campaign notes "From contrib-

u!ng to land and marine pollu!on to increasing our use of

carbon-producing fuels, our reliance on single-use plas!cs has

a devasta!ng impact on God's crea!on." Won't you join me

in my Catholic Climate Covenant Team? Are you ready to

answer Pope Francis? All are welcome; students, teachers,

millennials, re!rees, tree huggers, nature lovers, social

jus!ce ac!vists.

Contact Maria, Pastoral Associate of Music and Liturgy by

email [email protected] or by phone at

262.534.2255. ext 241.

Just A Reminder:

A second solicitation for the Catholic Stewardship

Appeal will be sent out soon. The goal for

St. Thomas is $32,000, to date $15,344 has been

contributed. Please prayerfully consider a gift to

help support the work of the Church of

Southeastern Wisconsin. God Bless.

First week back a%er an extended period

of !me provokes popular conversa!onal

ques!ons such as: how was your break,

what did you do? Many people escape

the cold temperatures and head to a warmer climate, some

schedule appointments difficult to make during the regular

school/work week, others fulfill tasks like spring cleaning, and of

course set !me aside for family and friends. My favorite kind of

vaca!on is one that does not include an alarm clock; having the

ability to wake up on my own accord, and let the wind take me

to my des!na!on. The first strong breeze was on a tailwind of a

Boeing 737 heading to Cleveland Ohio to spend !me with my

college teammates, lifelong friends. We went out to dinner,

headed to a concert, celebrated a 50th

birthday, and prayed to-

gether at Mass Easter Sunday. An unconven!onal start of Easter

week, but a much needed one to reminisce with friends who

support, encourage, cry and laugh with each other; we all have

people in our lives like that. Once back in Milwaukee, I made an

inten!onal effort to spend !me with my family; especially, my

mom. We went to the Mitchell Park Domes, had low tea at the

Schuster Mansion, and went out to lunch. The rest of my week

involved a mix of much needed household chores, socializing

with friends (team trivia), and a shopping trip to Chicago. I have

to admit I did not complete any administra!ve tasks, needed the

!me to decompress and reconnect with the people close to me

who provide support, guidance, love, and of course advice.

Happy Easter season and hoping the week was also a !me for

everyone to rest, rejuvenate, and come back ready to finish our

final quarter of the school year as we con!nue to pray and fill

our hearts with HOPE. God bless!
