All features on the house ·were made outstandingly large, including tall double hung wooden sash windows, 14 room in all, 11 foot ceilings on the first floor, and 10 foot ceilings on the second floor. A large winding staircase leads to the second level. Large French windows and doors decorate the fa;ade. Four corbeled brick interior chimneys add to the extravagance of the architecture. The Ricker Frame House is a large,

two story, three bay wide frame house

that stands out as an example of the type

of home that deviated from the normal "L"

shaped weatherboard frame structure found

in the rural parts of Allegany County.

It features very tall six over six lights,

four original corbeled brick chimneys,

and French doors and windows on the fa-

cade. Jason Hanks, a prominent tannery

operator, had the house constructed around

1865.

DESCRIBE THE PRESENT AND ORIGINAL (IF KNOWN) PHYSICAL APPEARANCE

The Ricker Frame House is located .1 mile south of Route 40 in Flints tone.

The rectangular shaped house is two stories tall, three bays wide, and rests on a low brick foundation. There is a plain water table. Wall construction consists of clapboards with plain features. Windows include double hung wooden sash frames with six over six lights. The first story on the north end of the house features two French windows with 10 lights each. The main entrance faces north and has an original French door with a transom light. The roof is hipped and is covered with tin and tar. Square modi11ions approximately 18 inches long are spaced every two feet under the eaves. One bay hipped roof porches are found on the east, west and south sides of the structure. A balcony lies on top of the porch on the west side. The north end. of the house has a three bay front end porch with a hipped roof sup­ported by four tapered square columns. One gabled dormer lies in the center of the roof on the north side. The house also features four original corbeled brick chimneys to the interior of the structure.

The Ricker Frame House appears today as it did when built around 1865. It stands structurally sound and is in good condition.
