Who We Are Maryland Global University (MGU) focuses on developing and delivering professional devel-opment courses in various disciplines and academic programs. MGU aspires to be a true global university, recognized for its professional development and academic programs that prepare students for the challenges of today’s world through research and discovery. Our operation spans both on ground-campus located in downtown Silver Spring (two metro stops from Washington DC), and through the online program (www.mdgu.us) that uses state of the art technology. All programs are designed to be completed within a reasonable time period without detracting from the quality of education. The coursework and curriculum are designed by scholar practitioners working both in the industry and as teachers at various uni-versities. These practitioners are also certified subject matter experts in their respective fields.

Our Capabilities • MGU’s self-paced learning environment enables students to choose from various course deliv-ery options, including face-to-face, online, hybrid, and self-study classes• Our instructors are scholar practitioners who have experience not only in teaching and research, but also in government and private industry• Courses delivered at MGU are approved by either government or leading professional orga-nizations, such as the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA)• Currently we are approved to teach over 50 finance and business courses from the National Board of Public Accountancy and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). We are also in the last phase of obtaining the Project Management Institute (PMI) Global Educational Provider license to represent PMI in global settings.

Our Family BusinessesMGU has close ties with many organizations that are centers of excellence, dedicated to research, engaged in organizing interdisciplinary conferences, and publish academic papers, all in order to create, preserve, and disseminate knowledge. A brief description of each unit is provided here:

International Conference on Interdisciplinary Research Studies - ICIRS (http://icirsconferences.com): ICIRS serves as a meeting venue for scholar practitioners, researchers, policy makers, and students from all over the world. The conference promotes the interchange of ideas and creates

a forum for dialogue on the challenges, opportunities, emerging trends, and best practices, in the fields of business, technology, and education. Two major conferences were held at the George Washington University in 2015 and 2016. The next one is scheduled for March 23 - 26, 2017.

Scholar - Practitioner Journals (http://scholarpractitionerjournals.com): This mega journal submission, review, and publication platform hosts a collection of broad-based peer-reviewed and open access journals in various disci-plines including art and humanities, engineering, medical science, social sciences, biological sciences, physical sciences and others. These journals

give scholar-practitioners access to the latest research findings, ongoing research, and concept papers.

Center for International Development and Education (http://center.mdgu. us): The Center works as a Think Tank facilitating knowledge creation through research and collaboration in key areas and serves as a venue for researchers and practitioners to collaborate in solving the world’s pressing issues.

What we OfferMaster Certificate in Project Management

Program description: This program covers the principles, concepts, and approaches to modern project management and provides both theoretical and practical knowledge to professionals engaged in managing projects. Students will have the opportunity to examine the five phases of project man-

agement as outlined by the Project Management institute (PMI 2015), namely initiation, planning, execution, controlling and monitoring and, closing as well as the 10 knowledge area modules (project integration, scope, time, cost, quality, human resources, communication, risk, stakeholders, and procurement management).

The program will provide the basis for professionals with no project management experience to understand the structure of managing projects regardless of the profession they are in. Following the principles from the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) 5th edition and other related material, this course is designed to cover the following topics:

• History and Evolution of Project Management • Organizational Structure in Projects • Understanding project, program, and portfolio management • Developing a project management plan • Knowing your key stakeholders - stakeholders analysis • Knowing what is in and what is not in your project - scope management • Knowing when to complete your project - time management • Knowing how much your project costs - cost management • Quality and its implication - project quality management • Human resource management • The role of soft skills in project management - emotional intelligence and leader ship in project management • Assessing known and unknown project risks • Project knowledge management • Contract and procurement administration • Introduction to Agile Project Management

What we OfferMaster Certificate in Data Management

Program description: This integrated four-in-one class in data management is offered to those interested in entering the database and related disci-plines. This course is designed by experts who teach high level classes in database systems and experienced subject matter experts working in the industry. The course is designed to help students start with the foundations of information systems, continue with understanding database concepts,

move on to database design, and conclude with database development and administration. A brief summary of the four sections of the course is listed below:

Foundations of Information systems: 10 hours of foundations of information systems to help students understand the role of information technology in organizations. Topics included in this module are:

• Organizational structure, culture, decision making • Understand the alignment between decisions of business strategy, information systems, and organizational design • Understand how the use of information technology impacts an organization • Identify the type of organizational structure that tends to be most willing to embrace technological change and sophistication • Discuss how IT has changed the way managers monitor and evaluate • Understand how IT has changed the nature of work

• List the technologies that are used to support communication and collaboration • Explain telecommuting and the technologies that support it • Discuss how managers need to manage virtual teams and the challenges this creates

Database Concepts: Students will have the opportunity to understand the architectural and con-ceptual overview of a database without attaching to any form of database. Topics included in this module are:

• Database and Database Systems • Database system hardware and software • The Architecture of Database Systems including the memory manager, query pro cessor, and transaction manager • The logical architecture of a database system that includes the physical layer, the logical layer, and the user layer • The entity relationship model with concepts including attributes, keys, relationships • Relational model – tables, entity and referential integrity, metadata • Data retrieval in the relational model – set operation, basic operations of relational algebra

Data Modeling and Database Design: Topics included in this module are:

• Data Modeling – the foundation of database design • Requirement formulation and analysis • Logical database design • Physical database design • Database distribution • Characteristics of a good database design process • Database design languages

Database Development and Administration: Students learn fundamental concepts required to install, configure, and administer database systems and database applications. Topics include:

• Getting started with database administration fundamentals • Relational database concepts • Introduction to database architecture and modeling • Creating and using tables and permanent objects • Understand core database concepts • Understand data storage • Administer a database • Design, create and maintain indexes, stored procedures, triggers and user-de fined functions • CRUD Operations • Transactions and Locking
