4 September 2014 Mary of the Southern Cross Feast Day Patron of the Toowoomba Diocese - 1 September The title of Mary of the Southern Cross is one that acknowledges that God has ever been watching over this Great Southern Land of the Holy Spirit and that the sign of hope has hung in our sky since before any person walked this ancient land. Mary was one of the few who stood before the Cross of Christ and is therefore well qualified to be honoured with the title of Mary of the Southern Cross. The fact that as we are a rural diocese the spectacular stars are so visible over most of it at night makes the use of the Southern Cross even more appropriate. The Southern Cross is also a pointer of direction just as Mary was a pointer to her Son, the Way, at Cana. Feast Day: The feast of Mary of the Southern Cross is relatively new. The date of September 1st was chosen because it is the anniversary of the taking possession of the Cathedral by our first bishop, James Byrne. Dear Parents, The end of Term 3 is looming and the school has been a hive of activity preparing for the production of “The Cat and the Riddle”, which will premier at the school this Fri- day evening at 6.30pm. Parents, family and friends are welcome to join us for a great night of entertainment. We are expecting over 160 patrons tomorrow night. We request that all children arrive at the school on Friday evening by 6.00pm at the latest, dressed in their costumes with their make-up already in place. I would also like to request that all pre-school children be kept with their parents during the show and not be allowed to play in the sandpit area as it can be a distraction for the per- formers. I would also suggest that parents “rug-up” as it does become very cool in the under cover area in the evening. We look forward to seeing you tomorrow evening.

Mary of the Southern Cross Feast Day Patron of the Toowoomba Diocese - 1 September

The title of Mary of the Southern Cross is one that acknowledges that God has ever been watching over this Great Southern Land of the Holy Spirit and that the sign of hope has hung in our sky since before any person walked this ancient land.
