Where do we find God in our lives? Where do we look for God in our lives?

In our first reading today from Kings, Elijah does not find God in any of the traditional displays of majesty; strong winds, earthquakes or fire but in a “tiny whispering sound.” In our Gospel, today, God is not made manifest in the wind or the waves but in Jesus Himself. As Catholic Christians, we believe that Jesus is the God-Man. He is God incarnate. It is in Jesus that we see the face of our God. So why do we so often look for God in places, other than Jesus?

By our Baptism and through the Eucharist, our God takes up residence in our hearts. How often do we take time out of our busy lives to seek Jesus in our hearts? How often do we make time to quiet ourselves so that Jesus can speak to us from our hearts? Our lives are so busy, and our world is so noisy, that it is often difficult for us to hear God calling our name or to hear God telling us that we are His beloved children and that He loves us. We may be doing many good things; we may spend time saying prayers but how often are we able to quiet ourselves in prayer. There is a big difference between saying prayers and praying. When we experience God, when we hear our God in our very being, then we will be moved to action inspired by the Spirit that will lead to the building of the kingdom. If we are rooted in Jesus in prayer, we will better be able stand firm against the storms that often occur in our lives.

Did you know that our Parish Contemplative Outreach has put many pamphlets and other info in the vestibule to help us grow in our prayer life? I invite you to take just a couple of minutes to peruse the display in the vestibule. Perhaps the Holy Spirit will guide you to something that will help you grow in your prayer life. Do not be afraid to start small. Remember, God can use even a tiny whispering sound to become present to you & me.

Have a graced week, Deacon Randy

A Reflection from Deacon Randy

Sign up for All Masses. We wanted to take a moment to remind you that EVERYONE needs to signup whenever they plan to attend DAILY and WEEKEND Masses. It seems that we are becoming a bit lax about signing up for Mass. Today (Tuesday) there were 8 people at Mass that HAD NOT SIGNED UP. PLEASE UNDERSTAND, we are not only using signups to limit our QUANTITY, but ALSO to allow us to do CONTACT TRACING, should that become necessary if someone from our community fell ill from the coronavirus. We cannot properly contact trace if we do not have all the names of those present.

If you are not comfortable signing yourself up, call us in the office at 314-894-1373. We are HAPPY to sign you up! Thank you for your cooperation. In His Name, Ann & Linda

STUDENT FORMATION

Virtual Steubenville was a wonderful experience for all. We started out hoping for a good experience because we did not know what to expect. The Virtual Steubenville began in the Parish Activity Center on Friday evening went through Saturday and Sunday morning. All teens and adults went home to sleep rather than our normal schedule of sleeping in the dorms at Missouri State University. With the help of Mark Stevison the Technology of the event went very smoothly. The speakers and Praise and Worship music worked without a hitch because of his awesome skills and him staying at the helm managing the technology through the whole process all weekend long. Mark in addition to Katie McDonnell & Mary Galaske our two young adults along with Maria Clancy, Lisa Klempert and Randy Howe worked really hard for the last month in zoom meetings, setting up our Large Movie screen and organizing everything we needed to do prior to this event taking place. Randy Howe made the event perfect by setting up Adoration both Friday and Saturday nights and by bringing everyone the Eucharist on Sunday during our Live Stream Steubenville Mass. The teens LOVED Adoration and receiving the Eucharist - watching their eyes widen as we surprised them with these three things gave us all so much Joy!!

We couldn't go without thanking Greg and his son Matt for setting up the stage for us to use for our big screen to enhance our viewing experience.

We will be looking at ways of meeting safely in person for the rest of the summer. We are hoping to finalize our ideas to do so this week. We will be sending out personal e-mails and texts to everyone with the finalization of these ideas and will include them in the next week's bulletin. We thank you so much for all of your prayers that you offered so that this would be a positive and holy experience for us.

PARISH SCHOOL OF RELIGION (PSR) Faith is a lifelong journey. Mary, Mother of the Church is grateful and privileged to have the opportunity to share this journey with you, and to partner with you in the faith formation of your children. The Parish School of Religion (PSR) is for all children in grades 1 through 8 who attend a public or private non-Catholic school.

Current PSR families received an email from the religious education office with an attached fillable pdf registration form to register their child(ren) for the 2020-2021 school year. If you are new family to the PSR program, you can download the registration from the parish website or call Cheryl Degenhart, the Director of Faith Formation (314-894-1373 ext 218) for more information.

Due to the COVID-19 virus, the following adjustments have been made to the 2020-2021 PSR program. Children in grades 1-5 will have a choice of attending PSR on Monday, Wednesday, or Home School. Children in grades 6-8 will have the options to Home School or attend PSR on Sunday between the 9:00 and 11:00

AM Masses from 10:10-10:50 AM. This will enable the children to attend Mass with their families either before or after PSR.

The projected starting date for PSR is September 13 for grades 6-8 and September 14 and 16 for grades 1-5. WE HAVE A DATE FOR CONFIRMATION! THE SACRAMENT OF CONFIRMATION WILL BE CONFERRED ON THURSDAY, MAY 13 AT 7:00 PM. ARCHBISHOP – ELECT MITCHELL ROZANSKI WILL BE THE CELEBRANT.

LITURGY OF THE WORD FOR CHILDREN At this time, Liturgy of the Word for Children is suspended until further notice due to COVID-19. We look forward to celebrating Children’s Liturgy with the children soon.

Parish Nurse’s Corner

RX Outreach: Please share this information. For many, out of pocket expenses for medication is difficult. The RX Outreach program received funding until September. Contact Bridgette Sims, RN (Health and Wellness Outreach Coordinator), (314) 627-6139 or email: [email protected]. GriefShare Online: This is a series of videos, sharing sessions to help/begin healing after the death of a loved one, whether recently or some time ago. Grief can be a heartbreaking journey. Often, it helps to share our story with others. At times, we may just want to be among others who understand, even if not ready to share. That is ok, too! Plans are being made for the next 13-week GriefShare group. It will be online via ZOOM or telephone call, if participants don’t have capability to ZOOM on computer or cell phone. We will begin on Monday, Sept. 14th at 6:00PM. Please register on www.griefshare.org. When prompted to “Find a group”, enter Mary, Mother of the Church. And if a neighbor, family member, etc. may want to join GriefShare, please invite them to register. School days are quickly approaching. By now, school districts’ decisions have been made. Aug. 7th was the “reveal by” date. Families move forward, likely somewhat uncertain of “how it will work”. If haven’t already, resume routines of “early to bed, early to rise”, now, to better ease into “school days”. Thank you to all who have signed up for the CPR/AED class. At this point, the class is full, but we have included a wait list for cancellations. See SignUpGenius. The class is Thursday, Sept. 10th at 6:30PM. Out of Office: I will be “away”, although not very far….between Aug. 10th and 20th. will return phone calls/emails as soon after that as possible. God bless you! Michele, your Faith Community Nurse

Contemplative Corner #173 The contemplative mode is one of receptivity. As we detach from thoughts, feelings, expectations, and the like, we make space in our hearts for Love to inhabit more fully, and we find our “inner circle” expands in response. As you sit with this excerpt from “The Story of a Circle” by Mercy Amba Oduyoy, consider: Has my Circle been expanded by my contemplative practice, and if so, how? How have any expanded Circles been manifested in my life? How could the Circles I inhabit with others be expanded by contemplative values, and what is my part in helping these Circles expand? A Circle expands forever It covers all who wish to hold hands And its size depends on each other It is a vision of solidarity It turns outwards to interact with the outside And inward for self critique A circle expands forever It is a vision of accountability It grows as the other is moved to grow A circle must have a centre But a single dot does not make a Circle One tree does not make a forest A circle, a vision of cooperation, mutuality and care

Care For Creation Radon

Radon is a rare radioactive gas. It has no taste, odor or smell. It occurs naturally in soil when radioactive

elements decay. It can accumulate in houses if they are built in areas with radon deposits and when breathed in can cause lung cancer.

Most of Missouri has an above average rating for this element in the soil. Test kits can be found in hardware, outdoor supply and department stores.

Cement floors without cracks in basements can keep radon out of the house.
