Pastor’s Letter
Happy Father’s Day to all the Father’s in our parishes! We remember to-
day that men are called fathers in the image of the one true Father, God
the Father. What an amazing calling! Certainly a calling that can be diffi-
cult to live up to perfectly. The good news is that God Himself gives earth-
ly fathers the grace they need to lead their families toward the ultimate
goal of heaven. As true fatherhood is attacked in our culture, I ask us all
to pray for fathers that they may stay close to the Lord in their personal
prayer life, that they have the courage to ask for forgiveness when they
fail by going to the Sacrament of Confession and be lifted up by Our Sav-
ior Jesus Christ, and that they be strengthened in their fatherhood by re-
ceiving Jesus in the Eucharist. On this Father’s Day I also reflect on my own
spiritual fatherhood. I have been so blessed by the Lord to be the spiritual
father of all of you for the last four years. There is no greater joy for a fa-
ther than to see his children come to know Jesus more fully, and I have
witnessed that in so many of your lives these last several years. I praise and
thank God for all of you in my prayers. Please continue to pray for me,
that I may be a father after the heart of God the Father. Happy Father’s
Day!
God Bless – Fr. Seth

LIVE THE LITURGY - INSPIRATION FOR THE WEEK
Jesus compares the Kingdom of God to a mustard seed, the tiniest of
seeds. When planted, the tiny mustard seed grows into a tremendous tree
with large branches. So, too, in each of our lives, small things can have
profound effects. God can use one of our more insignificant gestures to
radically change another person's life. It may be the kindness of a smile,
our willingness to accommodate someone, listening to someone's story,
helping someone who is hurting, standing up for someone who is right, or
complimenting someone on something they did. We all have God-given
gifts and talents. Our task is to use them creatively, consistently, lovingly,
and generously. We trust that God will take care of the rest.
Blessing of Fathers
God and Father of all creation,
we come before you today with humble hearts.
You are our model of a loving father.
When we fail and fall short of your expectations,
you are always there at the end of the day with open arms,
ready to heal the cuts and scrapes of the day
and to encourage us to try again and not to give up.
We hold up these men in our midst who act in the world
as fathers to their children or models of fathers for others.
Bless them in their moments of doubt and frustration with their children.
Give them warm and open hearts to forgive failures.
Provide them with the words needed for encouragement and persever-
ance. We ask all this in the name of Jesus.
Amen.

Youth Minister’s Letter
For the next three weeks I am going to
write my articles on the theological
virtues of faith, hope, and charity.
Then, I’ll write about the cardinal vir-
tues of prudence, justice, fortitude,
and temperance. Here’s an introduc-
tion: The theological virtues “relate di-
rectly to God. They dispose Christians
to live in a relationship with the Holy
Trinity” (CCC § 1812). Theological vir-
tues are “infused by God into the souls
of the faithful” (CCC § 1813). You can
never have “too much” of a theologi-
cal virtue as they come from God and
flow back to God. This might seem ob-
vious, but not all virtues work this way.
For example, for the cardinal virtues,
such as temperance, virtue lies in the
middle. This is because cardinal virtues
are moral virtues which are “acquired
by human effort” (CCC § 1804) in or-
der to help one live with integrity.
While it makes sense that for a virtue
such as temperance or justice “virtue
lies in the middle,” to say for love
“virtue lies in the middle” sounds silly.
Who wants to love their spouse, chil-
dren, and God in moderation? No
one. Rather, we desire to love them as
much as possible. We desire to have
as much faith as possible. We desire to
have as much hope as possible. Yet,
we cannot have faith, hope, and love
of our own effort. So, we must pray for
it. Always remember to pray for an in-
crease in these virtues in your life.
God Bless -Christina

WHY DO WE DO THAT? - CATHOLIC TRADITIONS EXPLAINED
Question:
If God knows everything we do, why do we need to go to Confession?
Answer: Another term for the Sacrament of Confession is the Sacrament
of Reconciliation. We go to this sacrament not only to confess our sins,
but to be reconciled with God. Of course, this begs the question, "If I
can pray to God on my own, why can't I be reconciled to God on my
own?" In the seven sacraments, we recognize the importance of com-
munity. Sacraments like Baptism or Matrimony happen in the context of
the wider church to remind us of the communal impact of our lives. We
are not alone in our walk of faith!
We don't need to confess our sins in front of the whole community --
thank God! But going to the Sacrament of Reconciliation is a tangible
reminder that our sins affect not only ourselves and our relationship with
God, but others as well. Jesus gave his Apostles authority to forgive sins
in his name. Through this sacrament, we are really, truly forgiven by God
Himself. We receive an outpouring of grace and strength to sin no more
and our relationship with Christ and his Body, the Church, are restored,
