Dear Supporter, I am writing to thank you for supporting the Mary Ann Evans Hospice and for contributing to the provision of local Hospice care. 2011 was our 20th Anniversary which gave us the opportunity to shout from the rooftops about the work of the Mary Ann Evans Hospice. Included in this newsletter are various events which are coming up in the first part of 2012. We want to keep you informed and hopefully included in our much needed fundraising. We all know that the difficult economic climate has taken its toll and we, like many organisations, are analysing our costs. If you can get involved with any of the following events and projects you will be helping us to ‘Make a Difference’ to many local people. I would like to take this opportunity to introduce you to the Fundraising Team who work alongside me and who you may speak to or see at the many events throughout the year.

Once again a new event for the Mary Ann Evans Hospice. Come on you chaps, get yourselves to the Mary Ann Evans Hospice Shops, rummage in your partners wardrobe or get stitching. Whatever your fashion style, ring today for an entry from and have fun whilst supporting the Mary Ann Evans Hospice. N.T.F.C Chairman Ian Neale said
“We are pleased to be involved with the 5k Drag Race. A real community event which I am sure will appeal to a lot of our supporters and friends. It is a new idea for the area so let’s get behind it and support a very good local charity at a time when all our support is welcomed.”

‘Donations Day’
Loyalty Card
Will you organise a donations day at work for the Hospice?
On a designated day, your business/place of work could host a donations drive which could be advertised on notice boards, via email, team talks etc. Staff would be encouraged to bring into work good quality items they no longer want or need, which will then be donated to the Mary Ann Evans Hospice. These goods can then be sold through the charity shops to raise funds for Hospice care locally.
Why is Donations Day a good idea?
Everybody wins. The donated goods help to raise money, people are able to feel good while de-cluttering their lives, we gain both stock and the chance to take our message to a new audience. Re-usage is good for the environment too!

Our speaker Notty Hornblower began collecting period costumes and has now amassed a huge collection of wedding dresses from Victorian times through to the 1970s at the Hope House Costume Museum in Ashbourne, Derbyshire.
Notty has appeared on various television programmes too. Notty’s presentation will be accompanied by models to display her collections of wedding dresses through the Century.
Her collection covers costume and accessories from 1770 up to the 1970’s and now amounts to well over 1000 items.
It is Notty’s life-long love of vintage costume and textiles that has helped her gain so much experience in this field.

The Mary Ann Evans Hospice ‘Will Week’ in conjunction with local solicitors raised approximately £5,000. Research reveals that three out of four people never make a will but spending a little time and money on plans for the future is just common sense. Even if you have already made a will, it is vital that it is kept up-to-date. If you do not make a will, and have no next of kin, everything you own could go to the state. For many people, one of the most effective ways of supporting a charity is by leaving a legacy. Sometimes individuals may not have the resources available to make gifts during their lifetime; this means the legacy can be their greatest gift to support the Mary Ann Evans Hospice’s future.
For information about making a will or leaving a legacy please contact one of the Mary Ann Evans participating solicitors or contact Liz Hancock, Chief Exec of the Mary Ann Evans Hospice on:024 7686 5466
