‘MARVEL: CREATING THE CINEMATIC UNIVERSE’ Entry level, GOMA | Ticket required Avoid queuing and purchase tickets in advance online. On arrival, Gallery staff will facilitate early entry for you between 9.00 and 10.00am. GOMA opens to the public at 10.00am. Photography without flash is permitted. Food and drinks are not permitted in the Gallery. A cloakroom is available for large bags. The air-conditioning vents at GOMA are in the floor throughout the building. The exhibits are on loan to the Gallery. Except for the interactive digital and drawing experiences which are clearly identifiable, visitors are asked to explore with eyes only. The exhibition contains a number of audio visual elements including large and small TV screens playing action sequences from Marvel Studio films. The volume will be turned down between 9.00 and 10.00am. Volume sound levels will be increased at 10.00am when the exhibition opens to the public. The lighting level in some spaces is low. The floor plan and in Gallery signage indicate areas containing projected audio or moving visual display. There are some smaller screens displaying videos which have headphones for audio access. There are two digital interactives where visitors can explore more information about the Marvel Cinematic Universe via a number of computer touch screens. The Story Begins drawing activity invites you to choose one of three different templates to use as a base to create your own superhero character. A chill out zone is marked on the floor plan. This area contains comfortable seating with windows that provide a view to the Brisbane river. Exhibition pass-out stamps for exhibition re-entry during the day of your visit are available at the entry and exit points. At the exit point of the exhibition there is a large merchandise area. Marvel Green Screen activity Put yourself into the frame of a Marvel Studios’ film poster, by having your photo taken against a green backdrop. When finished you will receive a printed receipt and details on how to access your digital poster at your email address. The space features bright lights that face towards you when standing in the green screen area. There is a staff member in this space who is operating the camera. This person will assist you in participating in the activity by directing you where to stand and advising you how to access your poster receipt. There are computer screens in the space that can be used to access your photo, or you can access it from your mobile device or home computer. ‘KATE BEYNON: FRIENDLY BEASTS’ Children’s Art Centre, Park Level, GOMA | Free entry The first area features illuminated characters and interactive hand panels that light up and trigger sounds that reflect each character and their personality. Sounds include laughter, musical instruments, dog panting, rattle. These sounds also play intermittently. The corridor to the right of the entrance contains bright multi-coloured but stationary lights. At the end of this corridor is a three channel video projection ‘Visions from a Ghost Tale / Friendly Beasts edit’ which features the characters dancing. The video includes very fast movement/flickering light/sound. Lotus room (can be viewed from the ‘Marvel’ exhibition exit point) contains a video work – slow moving, with sound track. As with the ‘Marvel’ exhibition, signage will be placed at the entrance to areas with sensory elements. A staff member will be in the space to assist with any queries. There are two activities in ‘Friendly Beasts’. Beast Remix invites you to select a mask template and cut out different features from the collage sheets to create your own beast character. Children are welcome to take home their mask. Lotus Garden is a collaborative drawing activity where children can use shapes that make up the lotus plant to create an environment in which the Friendly Beasts would live. There is no take home component to this activity.
