You have to measure it every six months, and fill out your observations in the space provided on the
same sheet. Then submit it with a dock indent to us (Tanker Management Team).

SUBJECT: Criteria for Replacement of The Exhaust Gas Economizer Tubes
Over the years, we have seen instances in which some vessels under our operation have sustained serious damage as a result of the Exhaust Gas Economizer (E.G.E.) evaporator tubes breaking down or soot fires from the E.G.E. causing burn- out incidents. And the result of countermeasures, the number of troubles have been reduced, but have not yet been reduced to “zero.”
Because of repair costs, loss of time, and loss of business, we have decided to periodically replace the E.G.E. tubes installed on container vessels, VLCCs, etc. The vessels and ship managers under our operation are requested to observe the below mentioned criteria and to make efforts to avoid trouble. In principle, the Exhaust Gas Economizer tubes should be replaced as detailed below: 1) PREHEATER/ LOW PRESSURE TUBE: 7.5 years after delivery (Third dry- dock) 2) HIGH PRESSURE/ SUPER HEATER TUBE: 10 years after delivery (Forth dry- dock)

2. Inspection / Replacement of E.G.E.

3. Inspection Items
Based on the results of the inspection of the condition of the E.G.E., a replacement time period should be finally determined. 1) The specification of the E.G.E. 2) The maintenance data/ running data of the E.G.E. 3) Thickness of the E.G.E. tube If the thickness of the tube is below the wear down limit and the presumed life of the tube will not reach the next dry- dock period, replacement of the E.G.E. should occur.

Inspection of the E.G.E. tubes
The E.G.E. tube outside diameter should be measured and recorded every six months using the caliper in port and the wear down of the E.G.E. tube due to corrosion of sulfuric acid should be grasped. Additionally, the rough thickness of the E.G.E. tube to be presumed by the measurement of tube outside diameter. Then, the replacement period of the E.G.E. unit should be determined.
1) The measurement point of the E.G.E tube
a) The measurement point must be the same point every time in order to accurately
grasp the tube condition. b) The Top/ Bottom side and the FWD/ AFT (or PORT/ STBD) side diameter should be
measured at each measurement point. c) Measurement points include the following points: ・ The parts of corner (4 points) and center (4 points) of the E.G.E. casing side ・ Near the center support ・ Just under the exhaust gas outlet pipe ・ Rainwater falling down point from funnel ・ Soot falling down point
2) If a corrosive tube is found or the fin from the evaporator tube on the E.G.E. has fallen, it
is obvious that the evaporator tubes are highly corroded and worn down. Hence, vessels are requested to pay attention to the evaporator tube condition.
