While serving as a physician in West Africa with the mission Samaritan’s Purse, Kent Brantly was transported to Emory University Hospital in Atlanta as the first patient to be treated in the Untied States for the Ebola disease. Emory’s

isolation unit was well equipped with everything necessary to treat Brantly and others exposed to the dangerous virus.

Thankfully, Brantly fully recovered and was discharged from the hospital. In the press conference, he expressed gratitude to God, his medical team and the people around the world who prayed for his recovery. His request, “Please don’t stop praying for the people of West Africa.”

Just days later, Nina Pham, a Dallas nurse contracted Ebola while caring for a patient with Ebola. Upon hearing her diagnosis, Brantly flew to Dallas. He donated his blood, packed with antibodies that specifically helped fight the disease. Just last week, Pham was released from the hospital.

From this story, we are reminded of a truth that speaks to how God redeems our lives from a hopeless state. Dr. Brantly provided a blood transfusion that contained plasma that offered Nina Pham a fighting chance against a fatal condition, so Jesus Christ pouring out his blood, infused for us a power to overcome sin, brokenness and death.

Romans 3:25a states, “For God presented Jesus as the sacrifice for sin. People are made right with God, when they believe that Jesus sacrificed his life, shedding his blood.” The old Gospel hymn writer creatively highlights the gracious remedy, “Would you be free from the burden of sin? There’s wonderful pow’r in the blood.”

During this season of Thanksgiving, we can be grateful for the atonement of Jesus Christ whose sacrifice defeats what was once a fatal condition of our soul. This transfusion of grace offers eternal life!

Was there an action by someone else that gave meaning to your life? Editors Note: “Generations on the Move” is taking a break this month, but be sure to check back in December for a special Advent/Christmas edition!

If you have been to the church campus the past couple of weeks, then you likely noticed that construction has begun! On October 13th, with our entire project amount pledged and over a third of the budget already on hand, we began work on several key areas of our church. Here is a look at where we are at this point.

Historic SanctuaryOur Historic Sanctuary is in the process of getting a complete restoration, which will see a safer choir loft, a slightly expanded platform, new carpet and paint, and refurbished pews. At this point the pews have been removed, the carpet has been pulled up, and work has begun for remodeling the choir loft area. Offsite, some of the men in our church have been working steadily on refurbishing our pews. Their work so far looks great, and we are extremely thankful for their service.

Administration/Education Building Right now the upper and lower levels of the Administration/Education Building are accessible, but the main floor is almost

entirely under construction. The main level, particularly around the Library is being widened to provide more space for gathering and traffic flow to and from the Sanctuary. At this point the walls are down, and

they are beginning to get things setup for the new structure of this level. Also while this is going on, they are clearing out

the new elevator shaft, which will provide access to all three levels of the building. It has been a loud process, but the shaft is mostly complete.

The Reef and Preschool HallwayThe crew has also begun to transform “The Reef ” from a fellowship hall and children’s area to our new Youth Ministry space. The tile flooring has been removed throughout, and they are beginning to layout what the space is going to look like once the Youth move to this area. Adjacent to this area, they have also begun to run plumbing for new bathrooms that will greatly enhance our Preschool Ministry classroom setup.

Next Up and Things to RememberWork will continue in all of the areas mentioned above, but also work will begin very soon on the new Prayer Room that will be beside the Bass Road entrance to the church. We will regularly keep you posted on all of the information as it pertains to this project, but in the meantime keep these things in mind:

• Construction Areas: Work zones are off limits unless authorization has been granted to enter, and visible signs are posted at each work zone entrance. This is very important, and it is for your safety!

• Worship: All worship will continue to meet in the Christian Life Center until the Sanctuary is completed (8:30 AM Traditional and 11:00 AM Contemporary). We have had two weeks of great worship experiences up until this point, and it has been great to see folks interact that normally do not get to worship together.

• Kids: Our iKids Ministry is meeting in the lower level of the Administration/Education Building (Room 016) throughout construction. You can access it via any of the stairwells in the building, but the most common access point is the side entrance where we have our “Temporary Office Entrance”.

Greetings Parents! Can you believe that it is November already? The Preschool and Nursery Ministries are very excited about everything that is happening in our area. Our temporary wall is up and construction is happening all around us. I am confident that our families are going to love the end result! There are so many things that we have designed specifically with our families and children in mind. Thank you all for your patience as we have moved everything and everyone around to accommodate the construction phase of the revision.

The Preschool and Nursery Ministries will have the activity and devotional book, Joy to the World, by Kathleen M. Basi, available for families to pick up from November 16th through November 30th. We encourage each family to pick up a copy. It is full of exciting ideas that will enable your family to focus anew on preparing for the holy time of Advent and Christmas! You will find that this book incorporates the Advent wreath and the Jesse tree, featuring simplified scriptures, which young children can readily understand. Save the date! We will have our family Christmas party on Wednesday, December 3rd, from 6:00 p.m. - 7:30 pm in the CLC. The Preschool and Nursery Ministries and iKids are busy planning a fun-filled and meaningful evening for our families. We hope everyone can attend. You don’t want to miss it!
