Carol 8: Away In A Manger

Away in a manger, no crib for a bed

The little Lord Jesus laid down His sweet head;

The stars in the bright sky looked down where He lay

The little Lord Jesus asleep on the hay

The cattle are lowing, the poor baby wakes

But little Lord Jesus no crying He makes;

I love Thee, Lord Jesus; look down from the sky

And stay by my side until morning is nigh.

Be near me, Lord Jesus; I ask Thee to stay

Close by me forever, and love me, I pray;

Bless all the dear children in Thy tender care,

And fit us for Heaven to live with Thee there.

Carol 9: Joy To The World

Joy to the world! The Lord is come;

Let earth receive her King,

Let every heart prepare Him room,

And heav’n and nature sing,

and heav’n and nature sing,

And heav’n, and heav’n and nature sing.

Joy to the world! The Savior reigns;

Let men their songs employ,

While fields and floods, rocks, hills, and plains,

Repeat the sounding joy,

Repeat the sounding joy,

Repeat, repeat the sounding joy.

He rules the world with truth and grace,

And makes the nations prove

The glories of His righteousness,

And wonders of His love,

And wonders of His love,

And wonders, wonders of His love.

Carol 10: The First Noel

The first Noel the angel did sayWas to certain poor shepherds in fields as they lay;In fields where they lay keeping their sheep,On a cold winter’s night that was so deep.Chorus Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel,Born is the king of Israel

They looked up and saw a star,Shining in the east beyond them far,And to the earth it gave great light,And so it continued both day and night.ChorusAnd by the light of that same star,Three wise men came from country far,To seek for a king was their intent,And to follow the star wherever it went.ChorusThis star drew nigh to the northwestO’er Bethlehem it took its restAnd there it did both pause and stayRight o’er the place where Jesus lay.ChorusThen entered in those Wise men threeFull reverently upon their kneeAnd offered there in His presenceTheir gold and myrrh and frankincense.ChorusThen let us all with one accordSing praises to our heavenly LordThat hath made heaven and earth of noughtAnd with his blood mankind hath boughtChorus16

Carol 11: Good King Wenceslas

17

Good King Wenceslas looked outOn the feast of Stephen,When the snow lay ’round about,Deep and crisp and even.Brightly shone the moon that night,Though the frost was cruel.When a poor man came in sight,Gath’ring winter fuel.

Hither page, and stand by me,If thou knowst it, telling,Yonder peasant, who is he?Where and what his dwelling?Sire he lives a good league hence,Underneath the mountain;Right against the forest fence,By Saint Agnes’ fountain

Bring me flesh, and bring me wine,Bring me pine logs hither;Thou and I shall see Him dine,When we bear them thither.Page and monarch forth they went,Forth they went together,Through the rude wind’s wild lament,And the bitter weather.

Sire the night grows darker now,And the wind blows stronger;Fails my heart, I know not how,I can go no longer.Mark my footsteps good my page,Tread thou in them boldly;Thou shalt find the winter’s rageFreeze thy blood less coldly.

In his master’s step he trod,Where the snow lay dinted,Heat was in the very sodWhich the saint had printed.Therefore, Christian men, be sure,Wealth or rank possessing,Ye who now will bless the poorShall yourselves find blessings.

Carol 12: While Shepherds Watched

While shepherds watched their flocks by nightAll seated on the ground,The angel of the Lord came down,And glory shone around.

Fear not! said he; for mighty dreadHad seized their troubled mind;Glad tidings of great joy I bringTo you and all mankind.

To you, in David’s town, this dayIs born, of David’s line,A saviour, who is Christ the Lord;And this shall be the sign.

The heavenly babe you there shall findTo human view displayedAll meanly wrapped in swathing bands,And in a manger laid.

Thus spake the seraph, and forthwithAppeared a shining throngOf angels, praising God, who thusAddressed their joyful song:

All glory be to God on high,And to the earth be peace;Goodwill henceforth from Heaven to menBegin and never cease!

Carol 13: O Little Town of Bethlehem

O little town of Bethlehem,How still we see thee lie!Above thy deep and dreamless sleepThe silent stars go by.Yet in thy dark streets shineth the everlasting light;The hopes and fears of all the yearsAre met in thee tonight.

For Christ is born of Mary; and, gathered all above,While mortals sleep, the angels keepTheir watch of wondering love.O morning stars, togetherProclaim the holy birth,And praises sing to God, the King,And peace to all on earth.

How silently, how silentlyThe wondrous gift is giv’n!So God imparts to human heartsThe blessings of his heav’n.No ear may hear this coming; but in this world of sin,Where meek souls will receive him, stillThe dear Christ enters in.

O Holy Child of Bethlehem,Descend to us we pray;Cast out our sin, and enter in,Be born in us today.We hear the Christmas angels the great glad tidings tell;O come to us, abide with us,Our Lord Emmanuel.
