An introduction

Promote YT is the Scottish national organisation for promoting and developing youth theatre locally, nationally and internationally.

The provision of quality youth theatre across Scotland is of vital importance in not only nurturing the theatre artists and audiences of tomorrow but in also providing an accessible form of social and cultural development to young people. We are therefore committed to working with the sector to ensure that every young person in Scotland has access to a safe, inclusive and rewarding youth theatre experience.

In pursuit of this vision our organisation, over the past seven years, has confidently advanced initiatives which have provided valued and much-respected platforms allowing the sector to collaborate, network, learn and celebrate.

In recognition of the financial challenges that face both the wider sector and our organisation over the coming years we aim to continue to deliver a realistic but enterprising programme through core funding being provided by Creative Scotland up until 2013. Promote YT’s principle goals are therefore to:

 Sustain and develop the annual National Festival of Youth Theatre (NFYT) Deliver a programme of co-ordinated training and skill development in order to advance

the standards and provision of youth theatre delivery Provide platforms which allow the leaders, practitioners and participants of youth theatre

an opportunity to have an active involvement in the development of the sector Host digital services which serve the diverse stake-holders in the Scottish youth theatre

sector through providing information, empowerment and growth opportunities

As effective marketing and the provision of dynamic information services are vital to achieving these goals the MARKETING & COMMUNICATIONS MANAGER is a critical role within our organisation responsible for:

⇒ designing, implementing and evaluating Promote YT’s communications and marketing strategies;

⇒ developing and administering an on-going digital communications strategy;

⇒ working with the TRAINING & PARTICIPATION MANAGER to create and implement strategies for increased participation in youth theatre and in Promote YT events;

⇒ researching and compiling information relating to the youth theatre sector to update the organisation's websites, fortnightly newsletter and social networking sites;

⇒ producing print and print copy;

⇒ sourcing and managing communication interns to assist with development;

⇒ assisting in the delivery and running of events;

⇒ producing documentation and assisting in producing evaluation and reports of events.

To take on this role we are looking for an excellent communicator who is assertive, creative and

who has experience of working in an arts or arts related marketing environment.

We are a small organisation so you should be someone who is able to fit in to an informal but

hardworking environment where job descriptions often fly out the window. A willingness to muck

in over and above the ‘call of duty’ is therefore essential.

Although predominately office-based in Edinburgh, the MARKETING & COMMUNICATIONS

MANAGER will be required to travel and to undertake overnight commitments. For 2011 this

would include our three-day ‘SKILL UP’ conference in the Borders in March and our four-day

National Festival of Youth Theatre in Fife in July.

This post therefore offers a superb opportunity to play a leading role in a passionate, dynamic

and popular national arts organisation.

About Promote YT (Scotland)

Promote YT was incorporated in 2004 with the support of the Scottish Arts Council (now Creative Scotland) to develop youth theatre in Scotland. A youth theatre is considered as a group or an organisation which engages young people as active participants in the performing arts, where their participation is central to the motivation of the creative process.

Youth theatre is an ideal medium to encourage the dreams and visions of young people and Promote YT is therefore committed to trying to ensure that every young person in Scotland has access to a safe, inclusive and rewarding youth theatre experience. We carry out this role through providing advocacy, information services, events and training for the sector.

We produce events throughout the year including Scotland’s largest youth arts training conference ‘SKILL UP’ and, our most significant contribution to the sector, the National Festival of Youth Theatre (NFYT). This is an annual event of cultural importance engaging young people, leading artistic organisations and audiences from throughout Scotland in the celebration of youth theatre.
