Market research- Music magazines in the UK

For my research, I decided to look up music magazines that are available in the UK. There are many different kinds of music magazines, with different aims, audience and genre. Here are some of the magazines that I found:

I picked out four magazines, all four published my different publishers, to show the variety of music magazines available in the UK.

Every magazine is published by different publishers. I decided to research three publishers to look at what sort of music magazines they publish, and to look at what other magazines they publish.

“Bauer Media” is magazine publisher, which publishes three different music magazines.

Team rock only publishes these three music magazines, no other sort of magazines.

After my general research about music magazines in the UK, I am now focusing on the type of magazine I want to make later in this course, which is pop magazines.

I have chosen to focus and make a pop related magazine, because this is the type of magazines I personally would read, and pop music is something that I listen to everyday and it interests me.

Top of the pops

• This magazine is the typical teen girl magazine. They writes about current pop music and bands scaling the charts.• The magazines content: Interviews, posters, details of stars, fashion tips, lifestyle tips, superstar boys of the moment, and free gifts attached.

• “Top of the pops is aimed at pop crazy teen girls with the average age of 12. They publish a issue every month.

Top of the pops is published by Immediate media. They also publish many other magazines, not only music magazines.

• Q is often called “The modern guide to music and more”. They write about current artists and bands.

• The magazines content: review section, music compilations, film and live concert reviews, as well as radio and television reviews, interviews with popular musical artists and Often, promotional gifts are given away.

• This magazine is aimed at an much older audience then “Top of the pops”.

• Q is published monthly.

Q magazine is published by Bauer Media.

We love pop

• We love pop is a magazine aimed at pop loving teenagers.

• The magazines contest: free gifts, interviews, fashion, ten gorgeous posters each time, a different celebrity agony aunt every issue and “loads more general pop amazingness that you won’t find anywhere else”.

• It gets published monthly.

We love pop is published by Egmont, which also publishes other sorts of magazines.
