Weekly Notices

Pay on the day Policy

We are making some changes to our customer account management system modernising and

strengthening our processes for the benefit of everyone. The main change will be that all stock must

be paid for on the day; unless you have agreed terms with Gillstream Markets Ltd. You can apply for

terms using an ‘Account’ form, which can be posted or emailed on request and are also available

from the market office. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact us on 01664

562971.

Notice to vendors bringing cattle into Melton Mowbray Market

In order to comply with the Tuberculosis (England) order 2014 we would like to remind vendors when stating the TB testing date of the cattle being sent to market the date of test section should be filled out as the date

of injection not the date of the reading. The 60 day period in which animals can be moved begins on this date.

To assist us with this matter please ensure a TB test certificate accompanies all cattle entering the market, this can be sent directly from your vets to the office via email or a hard copy sent with your entry form.

Farm assurance status

Would all cattle vendors selling cattle as Farm Assured please ensure that their Farm Assurance is up to date, with all linked holdings registered to the primary holding, and ensure that the stickers used in

passports match the details held by the administering Farm Assurance body. We are increasingly having issues with linked holdings not being covered under a primary FABBL account, and severe deductions

are being applied at the time of slaughter. In such instances, the vendor is liable for all deductions made

Sheep Scab

Farmers are asked to inspect their flock for signs of sheep Scab, any livestock forward, showing signs of scab will be rejected from the market.

Named/Numbered Sires

Vendors are advised that named sires must be officially printed on the passport of the animal and not hand written. We will not sell animals as being named or numbered sire if the sire details are not printed onto the passport. Sire

details may be checked with the breed societies online to ensure that they are correct. Please also include sire details on your blue entry forms which accompany cattle to market. Thank you for your cooperation.

A Change in sale time Please Note Cull Ewes are now being sold at 10:30am before the prime lambs and store lambs.

Mortality Warranty

Dear vendors and purchasers, From the 17th September 2019 Melton Mowbray Market is introducing a buyers mortality warranty whereby the purchasers can opt to insure

any stock purchased from the market to cover death post sale within 7 days of the date of the fall of the hammer. Currently purchasers are only covered under the Livestock auctioneers association conditions of sale which does not cover mortality, the terms

are available from the market office and will be displayed in the catalogue. The mortality warranty scheme is in place at a lot of other markets and adds an extra level of protection for the purchaser. Initially we will be applying this to the sheep section at

a rate of 30p per head.
