• Seabed Area aprox 40 times bigger than land territory .
A puzzle involves a numerous small, often oddly shaped interlocking tiled
pieces that require assembly to create a singular picture. Each piece has a small part of the picture on it and when completed, it forms the
complete picture.
Maritime Spatial Plan - MSP
Maritime Spatial Plan “a way of improving decision making and delivering an ecosystem - based approach to managing human activities in the marine environment”.
The strategic environmental assessment ensures social, economic and
environmental requirements are considered during the planning and
development process and also allows for public participation.
Where marine spatial plans exist, they can serve to reduce conflicts
The engagement of stakeholders was viewed as key to reducing
conflict.
• A common language within marine spatial planning, which can be
understood by all sectors, is seen as an important step.
• Access to good quality data may prove to be a challenge when
implementing marine spatial planning.
“Maritime spatial planning is about planning and regulating all human uses of the sea, while protecting marine ecosystems. It focuses on marine waters under national jurisdiction and is concerned only with planning activities at sea. It does not cover management of coastal zones or spatial planning of sea-land interface, but it must be articulate with coastal zone”
MSP - Maritime areas under the sovereignty or jurisdiction Portuguese
• Portugal without the sea is a small country and peripheral and of no great relevance in terms of economic relations and international political, Portugal with the EEZ is a central country, and geostrategic. Is an Atlantic Country
• Portugal with the extension of the platform will be one of the largest in the world. Seabed Area aprox 40 times bigger than land territory .
• Maritime boundary, the outer limit of the Continental Shelf (presented to - Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf).
• Landward limit: LMPAVE (line of maximum high tide of living water equatorial).
