The current times present a challenge for all of us. While we are looking forward to seeing everyone’s smiling faces, there is a limit to the number of members we will be able to accommodate. Reservations will be required to secure entrance to the Rath al Fresco at this time. This is the only way we will be able to monitor attendance and serve all members efficiently. It goes without saying that this measure is also being undertaken to protect the health and safety of all our stakeholders– members and staff. I would also like to remind all members that opening the Rath al Fresco bears a responsibility for everyone. A Caltech administrator describes it excellently, “ It is incumbent on each of us to engage in all on-campus activities in a manner that is respectful of our colleagues and recognizes our individual responsibilities to the community as a whole. We each have a role to play, from maintaining appropriate physical distance from others to wearing a cloth face covering to staying home when ill, if we are to mitigate the risks of spreading COVID-19.” The Athenaeum is preparing our reopening with great care. Here are only a few of the changes we are making to protect your health: Increased sanitization measures throughout the club. All staff are fully masked and gloved, with safe temperature readings daily. Reservations-only for all club activities; no walk-ins. Hand sanitizing stations in the Pavilion Garden. All drinkware, dishware, and cutlery are disposable/compostable. Summertime in the Rath al Fresco is one of the most awaited times on The Athenaeum’s calendar. It is even more urgent and essential during this time of social distancing that parents keep their children within their assigned table space and prevent them from wandering around. The Athenaeum thanks you for your cooperation. I look forward to seeing you all at the Rath al Fresco this summer. Marisu Jimenez, CCM General Manager

Summer and the Rath al Fresco

The management team is working hard to bring our members’ favorite hangout space, the Rath al Fresco, back in the swing this July. It goes without saying that this measure is also being undertaken to protect the health and safety of all our stakeholders–members and staff.

We each have a role to play, from maintaining appropriate physical distance from others to wearing a cloth face covering to staying home when ill, if we are to mitigate the risks of spreading COVID-19.”The Athenaeum is preparing our reopening with great care. Here are only a few of the changes we are making to protect your health:

• Increased sanitization measures throughout the club.

• All staff are fully masked and gloved, with safe temperature readings daily.

• Reservations-only for all club activities; no walk-ins.

• Hand sanitizing stations in the Pavilion Garden.

• All drinkware, dishware, and cutlery are disposable/compostable.

Welcome Back to the Rath al Fresco!

W e’re looking forward to seeing our members under the summer skies at the Rath al Fresco, starting on July 7. This summer, of course, is unlike any we have experienced; each of us is asked to cooperate with regulations

to prevent the spread of COVID-19. The Athenaeum’s staff will be following strict procedures mandated by both the City of Pasadena and Los Angeles County. For further details, please visit:

City of Pasadena Public Health OrderCity of Pasadena Restaurant Reopening Protocol

County of Los Angeles Public Health Order & Protocol for Restaurant Reopening

While The Athenaeum’s staff does its part, both in the dining areas and in the kitchen, we need our members to also comply with the current protocols. These regulations represent some changes to the casual nature of Rath al Fresco, but will allow all of us to remain safe within the established guidelines.

Some changes to expect when you visit the Rath al Fresco:

• Operating hours will be 4:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. (seating every half-hour) Last food/drink call at 7:00 p.m., closing at 8:00 p.m.

• Reservations will be mandatory; no walk-ins will be accepted.

• Seating will occur on the half-hour, with a limited number of reservations taken for each time period. Seating will be “first come, first served,” with no seating preferences possible at the time the reservation is made.

• Reservations may be made for a maximum party of 6 people from the same household.

• No parties larger than 6 will be accepted and no tables will be moved to accommodate larger groups.

• Reservations may be cancelled after a no-show period of 10 minutes (to preserve maximum occupancy restrictions).

• Members and guests will self-park.

• Diners must wear masks at all times after arrival, except while seated at their dining table.

• Diners will receive table service; there will be no self-service for food and drink.

• Diners must observe social distancing requirements (6 feet of space between people) at all times.

• Children must remain seated and under control of their parents/guardians at all times.

• Members and guests must follow all signage, designated paths, and markings, unless an adjustment is needed for those with mobility issues.

We hope that our members understand that The Athenaeum is mandated to uphold the very strict nature of city and county regulations. While Southern California is reopening, we must still work together to “flatten the curve” and reduce the spread of COVID-19. Despite the changes due to the current pandemic, the basic feature of the Rath al Fresco will not change: delicious dining with family and friends, in a beautiful outdoor setting.

If you have any questions, please email [email protected] or [email protected] or call us at (626) 395-8200 (Monday-Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.).

See you soon at the Rath al Fresco!
