VICTIM ADVOCATE SERVICES

Victim Advocates ensures that each person who is a victim of do-mestic abuse, rape, or sexual assault is provided with crisis inter-vention, support and assistance. The Victim Advocates represent the interests of all victims and at-risk family members through the military and court systems and provide education and resources to assist in the victim's continued safety.

Victim Reporting Options:

Restricted Reporting - Victims may disclose domestic abuse to the victim advocate or a healthcare provider without a for-mal report being made to law enforcement or command. Vic-tims receive appropriate medical care and are referred to a vic-tim advocate for further services. The victim advocate provides information about reporting to command and will help the vic-tim weigh the pros and cons of choosing to report at a later time.

Unrestricted Reporting - Victims who want to pursue an of-ficial investigation of the incident can elect the unrestricted re-porting option and use current reporting channels, such as command, law enforcement or the victim advocate. There are exceptions to the restricted reporting option for victims, in-cluding when disclosure is necessary to prevent or lessen a se-rious and imminent threat to the safety of the victim or another individual.

Victim Advocates are on call 24/7 and provide information, guid-ance and support to those who have experienced domestic abuse. To reach a Victim Advocate, call the 24/7 Installation Helpline: 619-279-6113 or the DoD Safe Helpline: 877-995-5247
