Marilyn the Fancy Fish New photos and some small changes have been added to this pattern. Take a look at this post to see what changes have been made. Hi! Welcome to Woolly Toons and my first ever post. Basically, I’ve been crocheting toys or amigurumi for about 8 years, creating my own patterns for about 2 years, and I thought it was about time to share. It’s only fair – the internet has taught me practically everything I know about crocheting (okay, Mum helped a little too), and if it wasn’t for all those generous hookers out there who share their patterns for free, I would never have started this addictive and surprisingly rewarding hobby. The first pattern I want to share with you is Marilyn the Fancy Fish, who first started out as a figment of my sister’s imagination. The pattern is untested so let me know if I've made any mistakes or if you're having any trouble. Enjoy! Size13cm/5in long, 10cm/4in high

Skill LevelAdvanced. This pattern uses single crochet and double crochet and is worked in a spiral. Some of the parts are quite small and assembly is a little complicated. Have a read throughthe pattern before you start. If you run into any trouble, please let me know.

Note on yarn and hook sizeI used DK weight yarn and a 3.0mm hook for this pattern. For those using US hooks, Irecommend a size C or D, for those using UK hooks, I recommend a size 11. You can use adifferent weight yarn than DK but it will change the size of your toy. Remember to use thesame weight yarn for all parts so that your toy is in proportion. Choose a hook size that willgive you a nice tight stitch.

yarn tails on the fins to stitch them on.

Join the eyelids to the eyes. The eyelids sit with the edge sitting along the open edge of theback of the eye. Pin the eyelid onto the eye. Be careful not to jab yourself. Use the tail on theeyelid to join it to the eye. Work your way from the back, sewing down the side of the eyelid.

When you reach the front, don't sew over the edge of the eyelid. You want this section tocurve upwards. Instead at the front of the eyelid, join the underside of the eyelid to the eyeuntil you reach the other side and then you can stitch over the edge again until you reach theback.

Don't weave in the eyelid tail. This will be used when joining the eyes to the body.

Join the eyes to the body. Pin them so that they sit close together. Use the purple tail of yarnto join the eyelid section to the body and then use the white tail of yarn to join the eye sectionto the body.

Make the pupils. Cut out two circles from black felt for the pupils. For highlights, cut out twovery small circles from the white felt and attach them with glue or needle and thread to theblack circles. The pupils sit on the eyes just below the eyelids, a little off centre. Attach themwith glue or thread.

Add Marilyn’s eyeliner. Cut out two slightly curved strips from black felt. They should be a littlebit longer than the eyelids are wide. Glue or sew them on to the front edges of the eyelids, leaving the outer ends unattached so that they can curve up. If you want to strengthen thefelt, you can use some fabric stiffener. Dampen the felt with watered down fabric stiffener andlet it dry.

Add a beauty spot. Cut out a small circle of black felt. Glue or sew this on just above onecorner of the mouth. If you feel like Marilyn needs a little more bling, you could use a sequinor a bead instead.

Now you have your very own fancy fish. I hope you like her.

Check out her little partner Walter.
