DUBAI GETS TOGETHER Despite the relatively cold and windy weather conditions (for Dubai standards that is - only 20-25 degrees), the Dubai AG had a simple get together in the Safa Park. The games started after a nice lunch of home cooked food. All participants were split into 5 teams. Everybody joined the group activities such as can bowling, skipping, hula hoop, sack race, spoon & potato challenge and the three legged race. It was a competition that everyone enjoyed. Afterwards, there was dinner at Tim Bownes’ back yard during which the group winner and individual winners were announced (congratulations to the Green Team as well as to Steven, Darryl and Gill). The happiest man in the group was Patrick Paragua who celebrated the birth of his second daughter, Therese Faith Paragua, who was born on December 27, 2011. We all chipped in and bought him a nice gift. DIVING TEAM EXPANDING The Underwater Dive Team would like to welcome Dean Stromeyer who has recently joined them. Dean is based in the Liverpool office. OFFICE IN FALMOUTH Maritime and First Marine have just opened a project office in Falmouth on the Tremough Renewables Campus. Johnathan Kirkland will be

Tremough Innovation Centre (TIC) is now the second of its kind in Cornwall and is run by Plymouth University, with involvement from the Combined Universities. TIC is a low carbon building and uses significantly less energy than a conventional office building. The facility is high quality, flexible managed workspace for start-up and existing businesses particularly in the creative, media, eco and environmental sectors that have high productivity, ambition and the potential for growth. In order to enhance collaboration and networking within the building, all central services are shared.

HAPPY NEW YEAR! SINGAPORE: In Asia the year of the Dragon started on the 24th of January. This is a very auspicious year because the dragon is a very auspicious mythical animal (made up of elements of all other 11 animals in the 12-year cycle of years). We would like to wish everyone a happy year of the Dragon this year in the Maritime. We'd like to spread the real optimistic sentiment now felt in Asia over to our colleagues in other parts of the world.

GOODBYE TO: We are sadly saying goodbye to Wim Welvaarts after 10 years in Haskoning whilst he has spent 2 years in Noida office and 15 months in Haywards Heath office as a DAG. Claire Bertoni has left Nijmegen AG and the company to move to Scotland with her boyfriend. CONGRATULATIONS TO: Maarten Kamper (Haywards Heath) who obtained his Masters Degree with Distinction from Birmingham University. CAPABILITY STATEMENTS REVISED & RELAUNCHED We are in the process of revising the look of the Capability Statements. There are over 30 documents covering a wide range of M&W related topics. The updated documents will be available in March.

Earlier this month the senior management team assessed the submissions for the Maritime & Waterways Staff Awards 2011. We had a number of very impressive nominations and the decision was extremely difficult. I would like to thank everyone for their contributions. I am pleased to announce the following winners: Steve Goldsmith, Haywards Heath, for Business Processes Nguyen Lan Huong, Vietnam, for Clients Nikolay Voronin, St Petersburg, for Learning and Growth Li Fui Kein, Malaysia, for Finance. Thank you for your commitment and efforts in 2011. Information regarding the Awards for 2012 will be announced shortly! Simon.

...AND THE WINNERS ARE...

MASTERPLAN COMPLETED ST PETERSBURGH: We have successfully completed the preparation of the overall development masterplan and pre-project documentation for a multi-purpose terminal at the River Luga estuary. We are optimistic that the downstream detailed design will be awarded to us. We have also just completed the design of a temporary scheme for the dredged navigational areas and turning circle for Taman oil terminal. Three options were developed and the optimum scheme was selected. Several new projects that have been awarded to the AG are: Far-East grain terminal site selection study. Far-East coal terminal pre-feasibility study (image above). We have also been instructed by the client to prepare the pre-project documentation for Taman Grain Terminal.

3rd RAIL TERMINAL PETERBOROUGH: RH have been commissioned to provide consultancy services for the construction of the Third Rail Terminal at Felixstowe. The works comprise the construction of a inter-modal rail terminal with a working length of 700m together with a new permanent way connecting the rail terminal to the existing Trimley Branch Line. The rail terminal will be provided with nine sidings and a heavy duty pavement area for transfer of containers and road transport. A traverser will be installed at the head of the rail terminal. The project is now in its early stages of site work with the area being cleared and levelled to be loaded with surcharge material for ground improvement. Bill Andrew and Iris Liu started on site as RE and ARE respectively. The works should be completed by the end of 2012.

TORBAY TO QATAR EXETER: The AG is spread far and wide at present with staff working in India, Newcastle and Haywards Heath. However, Ben Bullock has been assisting I&E on a project far

closer to home on the River Dart. The Project, Noss Marina, consists of a high end marina, reclamation, a new dry dock/lock structure alongside a luxury hotel and top end housing. So far we far been offering the client a due diligence exercise examining previous schemes and planning issues however it looks positive that the developer will press ahead with the scheme and we hope to be their preferred designers. With the RNLI Lizard project now complete the team are looking at further RNLI schemes in St David’s and Porthdinllaen in Wales. Both are in the feasibility stages at present. As for the diving team it was a busy end to 2011 with trips to Georgia and Jamaica. 2012 is looking a little less glamorous with work being carried out in Torbay and Qatar, however it could be worse!

LAMONGAN SHIPYARD SINGAPORE: Since the beginning of the year the pace has picked up again enormously in Singapore and SE Asia. Plans in the region aplenty however competition is also fierce. We have been told that we are in the winning consortium for one of the 2 major Tuas reclamation projects. The second Tuas proposal is still pending where we have put forward a very innovative polder concept for the MPA to consider. It should allow for a $400 million cost saving but it is of course quite new. We have been assisting Marunda Port with a terminal in Jakarta bay and have given Samsung C&T some clever ideas to improve their tender design for a large LNG project in Papua. The Indonesian arena has also seen large developments with the signing of an MOU and first assignment for PGN to assist them with the development of another offshore LNG mooring system as well as overall PM for this project. Keith Bunning has arrived to assist with this. PRIME MINISTER THANKS RH VIETNAM: In January we presented the findings of the Feasibility Study and Basic Design for the new LNG terminal in Son My to the Deputy Prime Minister, the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the directors of

PetroVietnam. This outcome is important step in the process of enhancing Vietnam's energy supply and power production to be able to meet with the energy growth projections of the country up to 2020. The Deputy Prime Minister personally thanked Royal Haskoning's team with partners for their contribution to this important energy project. We are currently awaiting government decision and hope to commence the next step of the project (FEED) soon. Other challenging projects that continue from last year include Chevron Offshore Base – Site selection study, Bai Goc Deep Sea Port, a new small coal terminal in Uong Bi, Quang Ninh province for PT Vietmindo Indonesia. We also support works for Haskoning NL office for Damen Shipyard project and modeling for Libreville (Gabon), continue assisting in Ruwais oil jetty project for Newcastle, an LNG terminal for our Dubai office.

NEILL GOES ON SITE HAYWARDS HEATH: After starting

work as the Senior CAD Technician for the marine works side of the Ras Laffan project in

October 2006 I (Neill Tupman) was fortunate enough to be given the opportunity to visit the site at the end of January 2012. It's not often that CAD Technicians get to visit a site, and with the vast majority of our maritime work overseas, this was a rare chance to see something I'd spent a big chunk of my career drawing and designing. The purpose of my visit was to experience first-hand what we had produced in the drawing office; to appreciate the size and scale of the various elements, and most importantly to learn how we could improve our work or do things differently in the future. The sheer scale of the Ras Laffan site means you quickly forget that you're on a piece of reclaimed land located 7km along a breakwater out into the Persian Gulf. Despite all the headaches with this project I was left with a sense that this was a huge engineering accomplishment for RH, definitely something we should be proud of. I returned to the UK with a much better understanding and appreciation of what I draw and design, and feel that this experience will be put to good use on future projects of this type.

Scheduled Ancient Monument and is currently on the English Heritage at risk register, by protecting this heritage for future generations we have a real opportunity to enhance society.

DREDGING AT BAKU NIJMEGEN: Baku, Azerbaijan - After designing the new international Port of Baku, we are now given the supervision contract of the dredging works. Van Oord Dredging has started the dredging of 9 million 3 entrance

channel and basin using a cutter and bucket dredge. David Watkins is again the PM for this next Stage,

Natasja Vissenaekens will assist for technical issues such as surveys. The contract will keep us engaged for another 2 years in Baku, an excellent starting point for other potential contracts in the region.

DESIGN OF NEW FENDER LIVERPOOL: Associated British Ports (ABP) operates a busy Ro-Ro service at Southampton four days a week at berths 34-35.

To assist ABP in extending the life of the quay and piles against vessel damage, we have been asked to assist with the design of floating fenders and associated supporting structures. The project will involve checking the initial third party design and progressing it into a detailed design that can be constructed. We will also direct site investigations and material testing to ascertain the condition and specification of the quay. SEISMIC ACTIVITY INCREASING LONDON: The seismic group is currently busy on Lamongan shipyard and Callao container terminal projects. The former includes large dock walls and a repair pier being designed for a PGA of 0.3g, the latter a suspended deck structures designed for a PGA of 0.67g. The Callao structure is being designed using non-linear pushover analysis, a first for RH. But, with an increasing number of projects in high seismicity zone and non-linear design capabilities increasingly becoming the norm for such projects. We’re working for McLaughlin & Harvey as their temporary works designers for a new wind farm offloading jetty; Hatston Pier in the Orkney Islands. The work involves the re-design of a complex piling gate structure and 300t crane support, to be used for end over end construction of the jetty. We original designed this structure for the Port of Loch Ryan ferry terminal project in Scotland.

New projects include Tender Design for Tuas Phase II in Singapore and a Concept Design Dry Dock in Quebec Canada. Current projects include Lamongan, Port Acu, Ras Laffan, Zhousan Island, Brighton Seafront Regeneration and HMS Bristol Relocation. LARGE TIMBER STRUCTURE NEWCASTLE: The Ruwais project is approaching the end of the design phase, although teams in Exeter and Vietnam as well as Newcastle are still dedicated to the project. The drafting resources have been increased to accelerate the completion of the final drawings. Construction on site is now in full swing with the installation of the trestle piles and some of the pipework and roadway supported by these piles. The design phase of Baku shipyard project is now complete, and we are mobilising to assist the client through the construction phase. We are currently working with Teesport on a quay deepening and strengthening project with a view to producing D&C tender documentation later this year. Our geotechnical team has been on its travels with David Hinxman currently out in Dubai supervising a GI, and Richard Pike having just returned from Georgia. We have a commission to inspect one of the largest timber structures in Europe, Dunstan Staithes, which is on the South bank of the Tyne and just across the river from the office. It’s a

THE FINANCIAL MARI-TIMES The performance of the Business Line in 2011 exceeded expectations. Not only did we deliver a profit in excess of budget and higher than ever before we also achieved pretty much everything we planned in terms of our non-order related activities. We established new businesses in Singapore, Brazil and Australia and established a presence in Indonesia, which returned a profit within 6 months! Quite a year of achievement with foundations established for further consolidation and growth of the business in 2012 and beyond. Vision 2020 first revision will be launched in the next few days. The new version is a more coherent document with all our short-term actions and targets identified and budgets allocated.

Please get involved in these actions they are important for our future! Business prospects for the current year look promising with opportunities in the Middle East, Africa, South East Asia and Central America.

Thanks for all your efforts in 2011 and good luck in 2012! Simon
