    March - Week One

What’s the Big Deal About Sin?

    Am I Really a Sinner?

    Memory Verse:

For all have sinned and fall short of the

    glory of God. Romans 3:23

    Monday:

Read Romans 3:23. How many people have sinned? _________________

This is a verse that is part of the ‘Romans Road’, which is a list of some verses from the book

of Romans that can be used to tell someone about how they can become a Christian (google

it ;-)!). This is actually the first verse of the Romans Road. Can you think of why this may be

important enough to put first? ___________________________________________________

    ____________________________________________________________________________

PRAYER TIME: Using the letters A-C-T-S we will be writing a prayer each day. They can be as

long or short as you would like. Remember to take time to look back on your prayer requests

so you can see how they’ve been answered.

    A— ________________________________________________________________________

(write down an Adoration, or something you Adore about God, tell Him something you like

about Him or what He has done).

    C—_________________________________________________________________________

(Confess to Him sins that you want to be forgiven for, be honest, He knows everything!)

    Tuesday:

Reread the memory verse for this week. So if we are asking the question, “Am I really a sin-

ner?’ this week, our memory verse should pretty much answer that question for us, right?

YES! We have all sinned. What are some sins that kids your age do?_____________________

    Wednesday:

Read Romans 3:10. How many are righteous?_______________________________________

Not even one. Do you know what the word ‘righteous’ means? Webster’s dictionary defines

this as: Acting in accord with a divine or moral law; to be free from guilt or sin.

So this is another verse explaining that we are not perfect. We are sinful. All of us. This is a

problem! If you think about it though, is it possible for us to be sinless?__________________

    Why or why not?______________________________________________________________

    Thursday:

Read Hebrews 4:14-16. Here’s the really cool thing, even though we are ALL sinners, there was one

human here on earth that never sinned! Who was that?___________________________________

Yes, Jesus! Verse 15 talks about how Jesus, even being sinless, as he lived here on earth was able to

feel every emotion and physical pain we have felt so that he can sympathize with us and know how

we feel. We have a God that loved us so much that He gave us Someone that can identify with us.

    Friday:

Read Romans 5:8. This is the second verse in the Romans Road. Even though we are sinners, God

showed us how much He loved us by allowing Christ to die for us. He died for the sins of His chil-

dren before they were even physically created. He died for the sins we have already done and the

ones we haven’t yet. How does that make you feel about Jesus dying on the cross?_____________

    March - Week Two

What’s the Big Deal About Sin?

Is It Really Sin if You Don’t Know It is?

    Memory Verse:

So it is a sin for the person who knows

to do what is good and doesn’t do it.

    James 4:17

    Monday:

Read the story in Genesis 3:1-19. That is probably a pretty familiar story. What was the sin in this

    story?___________________________________________________________________________

God had already told them not to eat the fruit, but the serpent (Satan) convinced them it was ok.

There was also a lot of blame going on. Adam blamed Eve. Eve blamed the Serpent. Bottom line,

they were both responsible for their sin.

PRAYER TIME: Using the letters A-C-T-S we will be writing a prayer each day. They can be as long or

short as you would like. Remember to take time to look back on your prayer requests so you can

    Tuesday:

OK, so thinking about the story yesterday about Adam and Eve, can you think of a time when you

did something wrong and you knew it was wrong? This week we will be talking about the Holy Spirit.

    1) He will be with you__________________.

    2) The world is ________________ to receive Him.

    3) The world cannot __________ Him or __________ Him.

    4) He ____________________ with you and will be in you.

    Friday:

Read 1 John 1:9. This is the good news! Although there may be consequences for sins, when we

confess our sins to God, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins. Listen, we are human, we are

going to sin, but it is such good news and comforting that we have a God that understands and for-

gives us! Take some time right now to ask God to forgive you of something you have done wrong

and then thank Him for forgiving you and loving you.

Story Time! How Can You Know God’s Love

“There is a God in Heaven who loves you as you are and not as you should be.”

Yes...you are right...there is a God. You know that must be true. The heart of the hu-man being longs for God, and logic demands divine existence.

While everyone believes God is...most sense separation from God. We know God must be holy and good. We see ourselves as unholy and not good. We conclude that God is angry with us and we cannot know Him.

Good News! This Testament of God’s love is His Word to tell us that He loves us as we are. That love will save us from our sin and make us what we should be as God’s chil-dren.

    John 3:16

“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever be-lieves in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.”

We hear Jesus say, “God so loved the world”. God’s love has no limitations. He loves “so” more than we can imagine. He loves everyone—not just some ones.

Romans 5:8 tell us that God loved us so that “When we were in our sin Christ Jesus came to die for us.”

  • 11

    Romans 3:23

“for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”

This verse tells us that all people have sinned. We have fallen short of God’s intended

purpose for us. God made us to know Him...to receive His love and to love Him in re-

    turn.

For love to be love...for God to be God...and for humans to be humans...God gave us a

choice. We can choose to love ourselves and turn to our selfish pursuits. That is sin. In

our sin we cannot know God and His love.

The result of sin is that we are lost...separated from God.

    Romans 6:23

“For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our

    Lord.”

Wages are just payment...due reward...what one has coming because of labor. The

just payment for our sin is death.

Death here means spiritual death. When we are still in our sin, we have no life with

God. We are alive physically but dead spiritually. If we continue in that condition, we

will be separated from God for all eternity.

The wages of sin is death, but God’s free gift is eternal life. While wages are earned, a

gift is offered...no strings attached. God says He will give us eternal life—life with

Him—in the place of sin’s payment of death.

How can God remain true to His holiness and forgive unholy sinners? Because Jesus,

His Son, has paid the price for sin by His death on the cross.

2 Corinthians 5:21 says, “He who knew no sin became sin for us, that we may be

made the righteousness of God through Him.”

What’s the Big Deal About Sin?

Can I Do Something So Bad It’ll Keep Me Out of Heaven?

    Memory Verse:

Whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man, it will be

    forgiven him. Matthew 12:32

    Monday:

Read John 10:27-28. This week’s question is one that Christians ask all the time. Even though we

may see sins as one being worse than another, did you know that to God they are all the same? As

a believer, we heard Jesus calling to us and we followed Him. He gave us eternal life and NO ONE

can be snatched out of His hand. His words, not mine!

PRAYER TIME: Using the letters A-C-T-S we will be writing a prayer each day. They can be as long or

    Tuesday:

Read John 10:29-30. This is a continuation of the verses from yesterday. God is greater than all.

What is something familiar in these verses compared to the ones that we read yesterday?

    ____________________________________________________________________________

We read last week in 1 John 1:9 that even though God is a just God, He is also righteous and He will

forgive our sins. There was no limit placed on sins that said He would only forgive some or only for-

give you so many times. These verses remind us that we are in His hand for good!

    S—_________________________________________________________________________

(...stands for Supplication. You will ask Him to Supply the needs of others and then yourself.)

    Wednesday:

Now read John 5:24. I love those words, ‘I assure you’. It is like hearing, ‘I promise’. God promises

us, He assures us that we will not be judged. When we ask God to forgive us, He doesn’t look at us

and say, “Well, what were you thinking??” He forgives us, AND forgets about it!

    Thursday:

So we have gone over the fact that it doesn't matter what you do, if you are a Christian, you are

His! No matter what. There is nothing you can do that is so bad that He takes that away from you.

Read John 14:6. When you believed in Jesus and became a Christian, He promised that He is the

Ok, one more thing about sin. I mentioned this on Wednesday. Read Psalm 103:12. Transgressions

is another word for sins. Where does this verse say our sins have gone?_______________________

As far as the east is from the west. Do east and west ever meet?_______. No. After He forgives us

God forgets about them and so should we. Don’t let Satan tell you to dwell on your sin. Plan to not

Story time continued from page 11

Jesus arose from the grave to conquer sin and death for all who receive Him as God’s free gift.

How can you receive God’s free gift of love and life?

    Romans 10:9-10

“that if you confess with your mouth Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him

from the dead, you will be saved; for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness,

and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.”

A person receives God’s free gift of love and life by placing faith in Jesus Christ. To believe is simply

to take God at His word. With our heart (whole believing) we believe that Jesus is God’s Son who

died for our sin on the cross and arose from the grave to live in us as Savior and Lord.

TO believe in Jesus will result in confessing that faith with one’s mouth.

DO you acknowledge that you are a sinner?

DO you believe by faith that Jesus, God’s Son, died for your sin on the cross?

Will you now confess Him as your Savior and Lord?

    Romans 10:13

“for Whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

This verse says that any person who will call upon the name of Jesus, the Lord, shall be saved.

  • 17

To call means simply to ask in prayer. The verse does not require one to know more...do

better...clean up one’s life...or in any way try to add to what Jesus has done for us.

Will you now call upon Jesus to save you from your sin so that you can know God’s love and for-

    giveness?

Pray like this: “Dear God, I confess that I am a sinner, and I am sorry. I need a Savior. I know I

cannot save myself. I believe by faith that Jesus, your Son, died on the cross to be my Savior. I

believe He arose from the grave to live as my Lord. I turn from my sin. I ask You, Lord Jesus, to

forgive my sin and come into my heart. I trust you as my Savior and receive you as my Lord.

Thank you Jesus for saving me.”

When anyone calls on the Lord in this manner, that one is saved according to God’s Word. If you

pray a prayer of repentance and faith, you are saved. You have God’s word on it.

If you have prayed this prayer to receive Christ as your Lord and Savior, why not record your de-

cision to follow Jesus as follows. Often times, a good place to write this would be inside the cov-

    er of your bible:

Believing by faith that God loves me and sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to die for my sin and arose

from the grave to live in me, I, __________________________ (enter your name), do this day

______________________________ (Enter the date), repent of my sin and accept Jesus Christ

as my personal Lord and Savior.

According to the promise of God in Romans 10:13, I have called upon His name and have His

word for the assurance of my salvation.

    Tuesday:

Read Isaiah 59:1-2. The word ‘iniquities’ is also another word for sin. According to these verses,

    what have our iniquities done?_______________________________________________________

And then what have our sins made God do (v.2b)?_______________________________________

So if we are forgiven, can you see why sinning is still a big deal? What damage can sin do?_______

    Wednesday:

You may hear the words at church that ‘sin separates you from God’ and we learned yesterday

that, yes, sin can create a barrier between you and God. When we are to be working on keeping

our life holy and blameless, sin can definitely get in the way. Read Romans 6:12-13. What do these

verses say we are to do about sin?____________________________________________________

    Thursday:

Read Romans 6:14-15. What are we not supposed to let sin do?_____________________________

Read Ephesians 2:8. What have we been saved by?_______________________________________

Go back to Romans 6:14-15. Knowing that we have been saved by grace, meaning it was a gift from God and we did nothing to deserve it, these verses in Romans tell us that even though the law says not to sin, is that the reason we should not sin? No, it is because God loved us so much that He showed grace to us when He allowed Jesus to die so our sins would be forgiven. Because we should be thankful for this precious gift, grateful even, in honor of what Jesus did for us we should want to choose not to sin.

    Friday:

The grapple question this week has been argued for years. How can our sins be forgiven before I have even done them yet or before I was even born? And if they are all forgiven anyways then why does it matter? Well, has anyone ever told you to be thankful for what you have? Is there anything you can personally do to have your sins forgiven? Do you want your sins to build a barrier between you and God? It’s really your decision.

    Saturday:

Look back at your prayer requests from this past week. Have any of your requests been an-

For am I now trying to win the favor of people, or God? Or am I striving to please people? If I

were still trying to please people, I would not be a slave of Christ. Galatians 1:10.

    Spring Grapple Memory Verses

    February - Boy Meets Girl

    1. Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness. They will rule the fish of the sea, the birds of the sky, the livestock, all the earth, and the creatures that crawl on the earth.” Genesis 1:26

    2. Love is patient, love is kind. Love does not envy, is not boastful, is not conceited, does not act improperly, is not selfish, is not provoked, and does not keep a record of wrongs. Love finds no joy in unrighteousness but rejoices in the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. 1 Corinthians 13:4-7

    3. Do not be mismatched with unbelievers. For what partnership is there between right-eousness and lawlessness? Or what fellowship does light have with darkness? 2 Corinthians 6:14

    4. Therefore, be imitators of God, as dearly loved children. And walk in love, as the Messiah also loved us and gave Himself for us, a sacrificial and fragrant offering to God. Ephesians 5:1-2

March – What’s the Big Deal About Sin?

    1. For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Romans 3:23

    5. This is good, and it pleases God our Savior, who wants everyone to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. 1 Timothy 2:3-4

    April – What Really Matters

    1. For am I now trying to win the favor of people, or God? Or am I striving to please peo-ple? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a slave of Christ. Galatians 1:10

    2. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, gentle-ness, self-control. Against such things there is no law. Galatians 5:22-23

    3. But have nothing to do with irreverent and silly myths. Rather, train yourself in godliness, for the training of the body has a limited benefit, but godliness is beneficial in every way, since it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come. 1 Timothy 4:7-8

    4. I know both how to have a little, and I know how to have a lot. In any and all circumstanc-es I have learned the secret of being content—whether well fed or hungry, whether in abundance or in need. I am able to do all things through Him who strengthens me. Philip-pians 4:12-13
