Hello! I am Marcus Prater. I’m 25 and I just moved to Chicago in june from

Pennsylvania. I love to learn. Every morning I wake and start my day

understanding that life is a learning experience, whether I am learning from a

book, myself, my peers, or my environment. My goal is to teach black pride

and black strength and awaken unconscious peoples as I become more

conscious myself. I’m definitely ready to learn everything you have to teach

and look forward to putting my lessons to use.

Who I am

I was born in Dayton, Ohio and moved to Bowling Green, Kentucky where I

have spent most of my life. Bowling Green is a small city mostly known for

the corvette plant and Western Kentucky University..

I have experienced low wages in different states. I moved to Pennsylvania for

a second time in 2010 where I found a part-time job working for Five Guys

Burgers and Fries. I was paid 7.25 an hour, and my hours fluctuated depending

on when I was needed and how many hours were available. Growing up I

moved all over the city and noticed how marginalized people of color are

across the board. The city is divided by railroad tracks and you can see the

difference from one side to the other. Actualizing for me “The other side of the

tracks” saying, because everything is a complete 180 on each side

I need a dollar
