Biografía y Currículum

Sobre el artista

Nací en Santiago de Chile en 1980.

Entre 1998 y el 2002 estudié Arte en la Universidad Católica de Chile, para lue-go obtener un Magister en dirección de cine en Tisch School of the Arts, de la Universidad de Nueva York. Desde el año 2003 al 2008 viví en Nueva York, donde realicé cortometrajes nar-rativos y diversos trabajos de supervivencia, los cuales van desde asistente de fotografo hasta peoneta para un laboratorio cin-ematográfico.

Como cineasta he dirigido cortometrajes narrativos con actores y de ani-mación. Algunos de estos trabajos fueron parte de festivales como Animam-undi en Rio de Janeiro, el

Festival de Cine Fantástico de Puchon (PIFAN) en Corea del Sur, el Holland Anima-tion Film Festival (HAFF) en Holanda y el proyecto Word in Motion 2012, en el metro de Londres.

Fusionando mi experi-encia en cine, animación y artes visuales, realicé mi primera exhibición de arte el año 2011 en la Galería Gabriela Mistral de San-tiago. Titulada Gabinete y montada en conjunto con la artista Paula Dittborn, la exposición cubre un amplio rango de formatos: desde esculturas mecanizadas a proyecciones de video o figuras de cerámica. Gabi-nete será también exhibida durante Marzo del 2012, en la galería Pabellón 4 de Buenos Aires.

Quizás por mi interés en la temporalidad y el mov-imiento en el cine, mi obra visual está en constante transformación. Su consist-encia, para mi, está en la lógica de “remake”, donde una misma temática es ini-cialmente un dibujo, para luego ser parte de un vid-eo, un autómata mecánico o un cortometraje.

Mi temática ha sido hasta ahora intimista y personal, una confrontación entre el confort de la cotidianeidad y la autobiografía con la extrañeza de lo mecaniza-do, lo inerte y lo fantástico.

I was born in Santiago, Chile, in 1980.

I studied art at Universidad Católica de Chile between 1998 and 2002. Later I obtained a Master’s degree in film directing from Tisch School of the Arts at New York University. I lived in New York between 2003 and 2008, where I made narrative short films and survival jobs ranging from assitant photographer to delivery man at a film lab.

As a filmmaker, I have directed short films both animated and live action. Some of these films were part of festivals such as Animamundi in Rio de Janeiro, The Puchon Fantas-tic Film Festival (PIFAN) in South Korea, the Holland

Animation Film Festival (HAFF) and the Word in Motion video/poetry pro-ject at the London Under-ground in 2012.

Blending together my ex-perience in film, animation and art, I put up my first art exhibit the year 2011 at Gabriela Mistral Gallery in Santiago. Titled Gabinete an mounted in collabora-tion with chilean artist Paula Dittborn, it covers a a wide range of formats: from mechanized sculp-tures to video projections and ceramic figures. Gabi-nete will be exhibited for the second time in March 2012, at Pabellón 4 Gallery in Buenos Aires.

Maybe because of my interest in the temporal-

ity and movement in film, my work feels in constant transformation. One of its strengths lie, for me, in the logic of the remake, where the same subject can be first part of a drawing and then transformed into a video, a moving sculpture or a film.

My subject matter has been, so far, intimist and personal: a confrontation between the safety of daily life and personal memo-ries with the uneasiness of the mechanical, inert and fantastic.
