The 2012 season will bring many opportunities to the students of the Hillgrove Marching Band; The students will be presenting a challenging production entitled ‘underWORLD’: filled with emotional depth and drama, wonderful music, exciting drill moves, and a color guard that will strike the audience with both size and brilliance. This season, the students will travel out of state, taking the band to Michigan for the Bands of America Regional at the Pontiac Silverdome. Hillgrove Marching Band 2012: At Home in the DOME....

The 2012 season will bring many opportunities to the students of the Hillgrove Marching Band;

The students will be presenting a challenging production entitled ‘underWORLD’: filled with emotional depth and drama, wonderful music, exciting drill moves, and a color guard that will strike the audience with both size and brilliance. This season, the students will travel out of state, taking the band to Michigan for the Bands of America Regional at the Pontiac Silverdome. This regional will provide a national stage for the ensemble to show its talents to the

MidWest, bringing our reputation of musical and visual excellence along with us.

The band will depart on Friday morning on charter busses to head north for the Great Lakes State, stopping along the way for rehearsal and much needed food. Upon arriving at the hotel, the band will bed down for the night, resting up for the major performance the next day. An early rise will await the Hillgrove students as they will prepare for the stage that is set before them.

The BOA Pontiac Regional is a prelims/finals show, as usual, and the finals show will feature only the top 10-12 bands from the day show, and with any amount of luck and skill, our students will be there. to the hotel on Saturday night to rest up for a day of fun at CEDAR POINT!!!

Marching Band Power Words:

Participation in High School Marching Band has many benefits:1. DISCIPLINEThe highest form of discipline is self-discipline and the marching band provides students a forum for learning the importance of this trait. Students will be motivated by one another to give 100% effort, 100% of the time, and this will no doubt transfer to their everyday lives.

2. LOYALTYThe students of the marching band will learn to be loyal to one another, to their school, and to the program. This type of drive and motivation will serve them in their careers after graduation.

3. TEAMWORKThe marching band is the epitome of a team, 160+ students working toward a common goal. Once they take the field, the adults can do nothing but watch. It truly is a student-driven performance.

4. LEADERSHIPThe student leadership program in the marching band is open to all students. Learning to lead their peers through formal training and real-life experiences is College Resume Material!!!

5. TIME MANAGEMENTGiven 6 hours to complete a project, most students will take 6 hours...the marching band forces students to budget their time to maintain their grades during the season. Believe it or not, our students’ grades are most often higher DURING THE SEASON

6. FRIENDS AND FAMILYNot only do our students become closer as friends and as a family, but the adults do too! The opportunities to meet new people and work together are endless. We bring people together, grades 9-12, and all ages, into one big family.

2011 Season in Review:

A New World brings Hillgrove closer to the top!In 2011, the Hillgrove Marching Band brought a show to the field loosely

based on the Alice in Wonderland story. Entitled A New World, the musical production featured New World Symphony by Antonin Dvorak melded with White Rabbit by Jefferson Airplane. The visual ideas, designed by Wes Cartwright, featured several large doorways (seen above) designed to bring an air of mystery and intrigue to the audience and judging community.

The Marching Band competed at Kennesaw Mountain High School, BoA at Jacksonville State University,and BoA at the GA Dome in Atlanta, impressing the judging community at each turn.

After the dust settled on the 2011 season, we were able to reflect on what was our most rewarding season since our opening in 2006. The awards came in bunches (see below), but the most lasting rewards given to the students following the 2011 season are the friendships, the memories, the photos, and the life lessons that come along with being a member of our organization.
