Anand Deshpande(Chairman Persistent System) and Anil Sahasrabudhe(Chairman AICTE)

thanking them for experimenting and finding solution to the problems of private and government

institutes. The students were congratulated for being top 11000 students out of 200000 participants

and they were wished Luck for their competition.

Shri R. Subrahmanyam (Secretary, Department of Higher Education, MHRD) through a video

message said the synergy is coming together within students, with society, with industry and

academic institutes through such hackathons.

Prakash Javadekar (Union Human Resource Development Minister) through a video message

informed that Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will address the Grand Finale of Smart India

Hackathon (Software) 2019.

He said that in SIH 2019, the students would also have the opportunity to work on challenges

faced within the private sector organizations and create world class solutions for some of the top

companies in the world, thus helping the Private sector hire the best minds from across the nation.

The SIH is the largest ever Hackathon in the world and the only one to be held at the national

level.

He further said “Jo khoj karte hai vahi aage badhte hai”. In every innovation around the world

there was always an Indian mind present. The problem of our country is ‘We are contributors of

innovation not owners of innovation’. Even Bill Gates said if I don’t take Indian engineers in

Microsoft they will start their own Microsoft, so that’s the power of Indian minds. He asked

participants to be owner of innovation and wished them luck for the greatest technology

Brief

Dr Bansal, Chairman NDIM, pointed out that the Defence Sector was a strategic sector,

requiring management skills from the young and the educated conversant with the strategic

space. Dr Bansal added that while leading B-Schools were equipping the younger

generation with the management skills, it was necessary to educate them with strategic

thinking. A step in this direction, as pointed out by Brig S P Singh, is setting up of the

proposed ‘Defence University’.

Prof Iyer, felt that like in most developed economies, sustainable business models were

very necessary for industry to invest in defence. Brig Kuldeep Singh Dalal explained how

ECIL had achieved success in manufacturing critical component—the “seeker”-- of the

BRAHMOS missile. This development may lead to export of “Brahmos” to other countries.

Shri Vimal Mehta illustrated how air boats manufacture by them could be used in marshy

terrain, forest land and river bodies. Shri Sai Kumar opined that it was very necessary to

make the younger generation interested in areas like IT in Defence, Defence Electronics,

Avionics, Data Analysis, UAVs etc.
