MARCH 2—SciTech Girls Asteroid Challenge In this challenge, girls from the Fleet’s SciTech a�er-school program will design a device for an Earth-based test to safely deploy scienti�c instruments from a spacecra� to three speci�c areas on a simulated asteroid. �is competition will be viewable to the public with community scientists participating as judges. SciTech: Connect A Million Minds, inspiring youth to explore the areas of science, technology, engineering and math. Sponsored by Time-Warner Cable.

MARCH 2/9/16/23/30—Family Science Saturdays: Air. Come to the Tinkering Studio and be blown away by the fun. From parachutes to �ying things, we’ll explore the forces that a�ect how things behave as they slip, slide, glide, �oat and fall through the air. Activities included with admission. 1PM–3PM

MARCH 4—Senior Monday lecture on “�e Impact of Global Climate Change on Infectious Disease” + IMAX show Everest. Dr. Stanley Maloy will share details about climate change and how it might be a�ecting our health in the future. �e �rst Monday of the month, seniors 65+ enjoy the Science Center exhibits, a lecture and a Giant Dome �eater show at a discount! Note: �is program is very popular and seating is limited for the lecture portion. Noon lecture; 2PM show; $7.

MARCH 6—“Exploring Ethics” Environmental changes can have profound impacts on the spread of infectious diseases. Find out what may lie ahead for us, and what might be done to reduce the impact of impending changes. In conjunction with the Center for Ethics in Science and Technology, the Fleet welcomes guests to encounter science from an ethical viewpoint. 5:30–7PM. Free, registration required. MARCH 9—Saturday Science Club for Girls: “Optical Illusions.” Seeing is not believing! Investigate how your eyes interpret the world around us and discover some amazing optical illusions. Girls in grades 5–8 can join the Fleet on the second Saturday of each month to investigate exciting science topics. 12 noon–2PM; members $12, nonmembers $14 per person; must pre-register by calling (619) 238-1233 x806.

MARCH 9—Join us in celebrating the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center’s 40th Anniversary—a year-long salute! Our celebration will include a blockbuster exhibition, incredible events and dynamic educational experiences. See the special page on our website (www.rh�eet.org) for details.

FLEET EVENTSMARCH 14—Pi Day at the Fleet. Celebrate Pi Day (3.14) at the Fleet! Help create a paper chain spiral of pi. At the Piku poem wall, visitors are invited to create their own piku poems and put them up for display on our poem wall. Visitors who wish to add a second �lm or a planetarium show to their Fleet experience pay the special Pi Day price of just $3.14 today only! 11AM–4PM, Pi Day activities included with admission.

MARCH 14—“Science on the Rocks.” Science on the Rocks is an a�er-hours party for adults 21 and older, packed with hors d’oeuvres, cocktails, music, activities and more. March’s theme, celebrating Pi Day (3.14) and Einstein’s birthday, is “Pizza, Pinot and Pi!” �ursday, March 14, at 6:30PM; tickets for this adults-only party are on sale now through Eventbrite and at the Fleet ticket counter for $15-$20. If not sold out, tickets at the door will be $25; no discounts apply.

MARCH 16—Science Family Day in Balboa Park is the kick-o� to the San Diego Science and Engineering Festival. Get your hands on science at the Fleet with free gallery admission or $9.50 gallery + 1 theater show admission for children 12 and under, accompanied by a paying adult, all day. Science Family Day activities will go 11AM–3PM inside the Fleet and are included with admission. In Rocky Landing, visitors can a�empt to design and create their own parachute and container that will safely land cargo on the rocky terrain target in the Tinkering Studio. Kids �ve and under can search for rocks that are out-of-this-world with our Space Rock Detective activity in Kid City. See robots in action at the Fleet thanks to Correia Middle School’s FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) robotics team, the Robo Chicks. Additionally, outdoors on the Prado, the Fleet invites park visitors to create craters and investigate impacts.
