The word proclaimed in this second Sunday of Lent begins with the call to

Abraham, first known as Abram, and culminates in the Transfiguration of Jesus, the expression of his highest vocation as redeemer of the world. In his letter to Timothy, Saint Paul assures us that human suffering, like Christ's sufferings, have meaning that shine brightly in immortality. On this second Sunday of Lent, the liturgy presents us the goal of our Lenten journey. We walk together with Jesus from the shadows toward the light, from sin to holiness, from death to life, from the cross to the empty tomb. Liturgical coordinators and pastoral musicians must express these themes in various ways during the different Sundays of the season, reflecting upon the biblical texts provided by the Church in the Lectionary. It is imperative for our readers to prepare their readings well so that the community can best embrace the context of God's word for spiritual renewal.

From the Desk of Father Kurt In the gospel this Sunday James, John and Peter are given a foretaste of the joy of heaven through their witnessing Jesus be transfigured before there eyes. This experience will be a consolation to them as they suffer witnessing the brutal execution of their master. I often times refer to this scripture passage when I try to explain why, sometimes in our lives, we feel a strong presence of God’s love, but other times it seems that he is no where to be found.

Like the disciples in the Gospel, after a deep experience of God’s love, through a retreat or other activity, we must go down the mountain, back to ordinary life, where God’s presence is not so easily found. Dry times in prayer or periods of doubt are not necessarily due to the fact that God has abandoned us, but rather, opportunities for us to be drawn deeper into faith. Lent can be such a time for us, let us trust that God is with us even when he is silent.

Did You Know? The Planned Parenthood (PP)

facility in Rochester is again killing pre-born babies by means of the abortion pill. This is done through a “webcam” system in which the abortionist from St. Paul PP communicates through video with the abortion client, where she takes the deadly drug. She takes the first drug at PP and the second drug at home 6 to 48 hours later. Currently, abortion appointments are Monday mornings from 9:00 to 10:30 am. Sidewalk Counselors and Prayer Supporters are needed in Rochester to Save Lives! If you live in the Rochester area, please consider spending time at this abortion center in prayer or sidewalk counseling. You could save a life! Literature and sidewalk counseling training is provided. Contact Diana at (507) 438-7742. Retreat Weekend is an opportunity for young men 16 years or

older to learn more about priestly formation and seminary life, to meet the students and faculty of the seminary, and to become familiar with Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota. Due to high demand, IHM is having two back-to-back weekends in March. Dates are March 14-16 and 21-23.

For more information, contact the parish office or Father Kurt Farrell.

Presentation on Saint Oscar Romero by Marta Portillo
