March 8, 2015 Third Sunday of Lent On this Third Sunday of Lent, we enter into a reflection on what God’s commands mean to us. Are they a list of dos and don’ts? Or are they something that we take to heart and allow to consume us with zeal for the work that God has set before us? Let us pray today for the wisdom to know how God truly wants us to live. The Most Blessed Sacrament is reserved in this Church. We respectfully request that a reverent silence and appropriate attire be observed by ALL. 2014 DIOCESAN ANNUAL APPEAL “ Transforming Lives Together”

Our Parish Annual appeal Goal is $95,000.00. I ask every family, every individual to join me in making a gift, no

matter the amount. All gifts are needed and appreciated. I am confident, if we join together, and thoughtfully consider a sac-

rificial gift, we can reach our parish goal. Remember, the parish receives a 75% rebate for all funds we raise above our goal.

The latest report:

46.04% (384 out of 834) gave/pledged: Total Raised, $84,399.00 Over (Under), ($10,601.00)

Diocesan Pilgrimage for the Papal Mass in Philadelphia on Sunday, September 27. We are currently

asking parishioners that would like to participate in this once in a lifetime opportunity to contact the parish office.

We are able to secure a 56 passenger bus to depart from Epiphany Parish if there is enough interest. Cost for the

bus per person will be $40.00.

The Light Is On For You will once again be offered through-out the Catholic Parishes of the Diocese of Scranton

from 6:00-7:00pm on the following Monday’s during the Season of Lent.

March 9; March 16 and March 23.

This program is a effort on the part of the Diocese to highlight the importance of the Sacrament of Reconciliation in the life

of Catholics and make it as easy as possible for every Catholic to come or to return to this great source of God’s mercy and

healing love.

PARISH LENTEN FOOD DRIVE for CHOW FOR CHILDREN This has been a very successful social out-

reach project for many years, benefitting the children in the Valley. Your overwhelming generosity is deeply appreciated

each year. Having one particular food item assigned each week helps with the packing and we are grateful to those who help

transport and pack. No clothes please.

Week of March 8 –Canned Fruit & Vegetables.

Stewardship, as a way of Life

It is NOT based on the need of the Church, but on OUR

need to give based on OUR relationship with God. It is

an internal part of OUR spiritual lives, and we give out

of OUR gratitude to God for what WE have received.

The difference is in the result of the giving:

Catholic Relief Service Rice Bowl -- Hungering for a Season of Hope The next stop on our CRS Rice Bowl jour-

ney is the African nation, Niger, where we’re reminded that life’s joys and challenges are often seasonal. This week we pray

for people who struggle to feed their families during the hungry season, when food is in short supply—and we commit to

acting for the common good.

Celebrate Our Catholic Schools, As families register their students for the upcoming school year, consider becom-

ing an Academic Angel!

Your contribution is an investment in a child’s future…the outcomes speak for themselves. Our schools offer an

instructional environment that challenges the mind, while inspiring and strengthening the spirit. Please consider supporting

our students for the 2015-16 school year; you can designate the gift as a memorial or honor of someone special, select a par-

ticular school to receive it, or let us put it to where it is needed the most. Contributions can be sent to Epiphany School, 627

Stevenson Street, Sayre, PA 18840.

Eucharistic Minister Commissioning This weekend at the 5:00 Mass, we commissioned Bob Dillinger as

a Eucharistic Minister for service in our parish. Bob has answered God’s call to serve in this important parish

ministry. We ask all parishioners to keep him in your prayers. We welcome and encourage members of our par-

ish to consider becoming Eucharistic Ministers. Anyone interested/willing, please contact Ralph Meyer at 888-

9594 or [email protected]

Epiphany School and Parish each received a very generous gift of $10,000.00 to be used for the general

fund of operations for the School and Parish from an parishioner who wishes to remain anonymous. We are most

grateful for this very generous donation.

Also Epiphany School wishes to thank all who supported the Christmas shopping evening at Horn’s True

Value hardware store—it netted $500.00 for the school.
