NEWS & EVENTS

How do we convince people that God’s law is written upon their hearts? God is wedded to God’s people. This is a simple and fundamental fact of life. Yet, many ignore this truth and carry on as if they, or humanity as a whole, are the center of the universe. As a grain of wheat has to fall to the ground and die in order to become what it really is, we too must die to our secular images and ideas of ourselves so that we can become who God really made us to be. If all of us kept our focus on God’s deep bonded love with human beings, indeed with our very self, then there would be no need to teach others this fundamental life lesson. They would simply know this truth, as Jeremiah tells us. Somehow, perhaps through original and personal sin, we have lost sight of this reality. We have lost our way and our axis. It is time to find our way back, to learn the virtue of obedience, to pay attention to what God is saying and become aware of the Divine Love that is the reason for all creation. Then, even in our darkest hour when all may seem to be lost, we can say as did Jesus, the model of obedience, “Father, glorify your name.“ By this perseverance, people can come to know the Lord and what God has done.

¿Cómo convencemos a las personas de que la ley de Dios está escrita en sus corazones? Dios está casado con el pueblo de Dios. Este es un hecho simple y fundamental de la vida. LENTEN FORMATION SERIES: DISCERNMENT OF SPIRITS BY ST. IGNATIUS

This Lent our priests will lead five weekly 45 minute talks about the discernment of spirits. The discern-ment of spirits, given to us by St. Ignatius of Loyola, is the act of interpreting our interior movements (thoughts, emotions, desires) to discern their origin and know how God is leading us in our lives. If you would like to learn more about practical, everyday discernment in your life, please join us on Sunday, March 21 at 11 am for the fifth and final talk in the Pius X room (above the parish offices). The 5th meeting in Spanish will be on Thursday, March 25 at 7 pm in Good Shepherd Hall.

HEART OF JESUS This year's Palm Sunday Retreat will take retreatants into a Ignatian-Spirituality in-spired journey, modeled off of Fr. Michael Gaitley, MIC's well known book, Consoling the Heart of Jesus. During this retreat, the SLC will welcome Fr. Jim McCormack, MIC who will delve into what it means to "console the heart of Christ." This retreat will start on March 26th and end on the 28th. Check out the SLC web-site for more details. **Date Change to UNBOUND Event - Now April 8th instead of April 1st** UNBOUND PRAYER SESSIONS On April 8th, the SLC will be hosting UN-BOUND Ministry for private prayer sessions from 7pm to 9pm. These evenings will al-low retreatants to receive personal and pri-vate spiritual aid from an UNBOUND pray-er team. Space is limited, so sign up soon to reserve a spot and check for future events. This event will recur on the first Thursdays of upcoming months. SERIES: A LASTING PROMISE This six-week series for married couples, meeting on Mondays, will offer solutions to common problems―facing conflicts, prob-lem solving, improving communication, and dealing with core issues―within a Catholic Christian framework. The sessions combine what God has revealed to us about marriage, plus the latest research on relationships, and clear examples from the lives of other married couples. The event begins April 12th.

Baptism Parents: Must be parishioners of the Cathedral and be registered at least 1 month before baptism. They must present a copy of the child's birth certificate so that all names are spelled correctly on the baptismal certificate. Godparents: They must be married by the Catholic Church and they must present their marriage certificate (a photo is acceptable). They have to be confirmed and they must present their certificate of confirmation (a photo is acceptable). If they are not parishioners of the Cathedral, they must present a letter of permission from their parish priest where they attend Mass. Single sponsors: They must be over 16 years old. They must present a copy of their confirmation certificate. Parents who are not parishioners: If you want your child to be baptized in the Cathedral, parents must present a letter of permission from their parish priest where they are registered, and all the documents mentioned above. (For example, when the godparents are parishioners and the parents come to the Cathedral from another parish to baptize.) All must present a certificate or letter verifying that they took the baptism class. Baptism Classes in English: 1st Wednesday of the month at 7:00 p.m. in the Marian Room; located on second floor of the parish office. Registration is required. Baptisms: Monthly on 2nd Saturdays at 6:15 p.m. and monthly on 2nd Sundays at 11:15 a.m. Please call the parish receptionist to register for Baptism class and/or arrange the baptism date at 263-6574.
