Sydney Carter's classic hymn, "Lord of the Dance," is a metaphor of the life of Christ. In beautiful, poetic language, Carter describes Jesus as The Piper, calling his followers to the dance of life. This 30-minute musical from Joel Raney is an elaboration on that hymn, portraying each verse individually in a dramatic, colorful presentation - all retelling the story from John 3:16, "For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life."

Easter Walk - March 27 - March 30

When someone refers to your walk, they are asking about your everyday living. We want you to reflect on your walk. What does your daily living/walk reflect about you? As you enter McComas Hall you will enter a time of reflection. Asking questions throughout the stations: What do you celebrate?, How do you pray?, Who do you love?, Are you selfish or servant?, Do you listen to advice?, How do you live in the day and in the night? Hopefully when you exit the Easter Walk, you will be acquainted with the phrase, “Arise, and walk in the newness of life!”

Good Friday Prayer Vigil - March 29 - 30

The prayer vigil will begin at 8pm in the sanctuary immediately following the 7pm Holy Thursday worship service and will end at 6pm just before the Good Friday worship service at AMES UMC.

The church will be open all night for you to come for an hour or more if you desire. During that time, you're invited to pray, read the Bible or hymnal, or other devotional texts, or simply be in the quiet and holy stillness of the church. We encourage a minimum of two

people in the sanctuary each hour; more are certainly welcome. We will have a sign-up sheet available at the Welcome and Information Center on Sundays and in the office during the week. Please consider joining us in prayer either individually or with your family or small group and keep watch with Jesus.

Cheryl Firth is Retiring! March 2018

It’s with great joy, and a little bit of sadness too, that I can announce to you that Cheryl Firth is retiring after 27 years of faithful and loving service to BAUMC, effective March 1. Cheryl has been working on staff here at the church since 1991 in a number of different roles, and has worn many different hats, including: producing the church newsletter, congregational care with Rev. Peggy Groseclose, the prayer chain, touring large churches around the nation to glean ideas for church growth, working with new members, hospital visitation, casserole ministry, new resident mailings, organizing many pictorial directories, organizing bus trips, organizing calendar events, and support ministry to the youth group. She’s seen many changes to the church over the years and has worked with many different pastors.

Cheryl feels very blessed to have been able to serve this church, and to have worked alongside so many good people. If you know Cheryl at all, you know that she LOVES working with people. Her favorite memories include: Going on mission trips (Guatemala, Louisiana, Baltimore), Strawberry Festivals, Teas, leading Alpha small groups, encouraging people in the faith, sharing the good news that God loves them, watching people grow in faith (especially youth), and helping people through tough times.

Her favorite scripture passages include:

Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not rely on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Philippians 4:13 This is the day that the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. Psalm 118:24

Her favorite saying:

Life is an adventure!

I have thoroughly enjoyed working with Cheryl these past three years. She’s full of positive thoughts and ideas, and she radiates life and energy. If there’s a hill to climb anywhere within a thousand-mile radius of BAUMC, Cheryl either has climbed it, or is about to climb it, and is pushing the rest of us to follow her. That I could have that energy!!! Thankfully, she’s not completely leaving us. She’s going to continue volunteering her time at BAUMC, and she’s going to continue serving as our wedding coordinator. When you see Cheryl around, please thank her for her love for God, her tireless energy, and her service to BAUMC.

Peace,

Byron

Mark Your CalendarsAll-Church Narnia Banquet/Movie

March 2nd at 6:30pm in McComas Hall - ALL are welcome to share a meal, eat Turkish Delight, answer trivia from the book The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, dress as Narnians (or not), watch the movie together. Please sign up at the posters throughout the building, so we can be prepared for you and your family. Come through the Wardrobe and meet me at the Lamp Post. Questions? Contact Deb at [email protected].

Books & Bites Book Club - Two Opportunities Thursdays, February 22 - March 22

• Adults are welcome to meet in the library from 2:30-3:30pm for coffee/tea and snacks with Pastor Deb to discuss The Chronicles of Narnia books by C.S. Lewis. As Lewis wrote about the land of Narnia, an imaginary world visited by children of this world, he had two obvious purposes: to entertain the readers and to suggest analogies of the Christian faith.

• Kids are welcome to join Ms. Deb from 5:30-6:30pm in the library to have food (light supper or appetizers) and discuss the book The Lion, Witch and the Wardrobe by CS Lewis. When Lewis' readers find Aslan in the real world, they will find out that his true name is Jesus Christ. And when this occurs, Lewis is successful at opening a person's heart to accepting Christianity.

Vacation Bible School (VBS) - Shipwrecked! Rescued by JesusSave the Date July 30 - August 3 9 a.m. to Noon

Something New July 31 - August 2 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Yes, you read that right! We’re always sad that we have kids that want to attend VBS but can’t due to the morning hours. So, we’re trying this year to have an abbreviated evening VBS. I’m sure we’ll have kids. What I need is volunteers to help with this venture. That has always been the success of our Morning VBS - our volunteers. I will not ask them to do both. Therefore,

if you are interested in helping with the Evening VBS or just want to hear more about it, please come to an information meeting on March 5th in the Community Room at 6:30 p.m. Carrie Jareed will be Co-Director for the Evening VBS.

Lenten Study

Not a Tame Lion- A Lenten Course on C.S. Lewis’ Narnia films Tuesdays, February 20-March 20, 7 - 8:15PM, room 202 Author Hilary Brand uses scenes from The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, Prince Caspian, and Shadowlands, to open up the Bible for discussion of big Christian themes. This Lenten course is a reminder that God is not to be contained by the constraints and limitations Christians might put on him: “We would all like a religion that kept us within our comfort zone. But just as the Aslan of the Narnia stories is not a tame lion, neither is the Christ of the Gospels always a comfortable savior, saying things that are often unexpected and challenging.” Leaders- Byron Brought, Lynn Boyd, Deb Lampton
