LADIES FRIENDSHIP CLUB
Twenty packs for homeless veterans were delivered in
February. We hope to fill more in March. We still need: toothpaste, soap holders, shaving cream, deodorant, and toothbrush holders. If you wish to participate, you can bring items to the rec hall or 26-6th. Your donations are so appreciated. March 1 --- Our first style show and it looks like a full house. March 4 --- We will participate in the park wide garage sale. If you have items you would like to donate, bring your items to 24-7th on Friday, March 3. All proceeds go to charity. March 8 --- Is our potluck lunch in the hall. We will be deciding on what charities to support and hopefully fill more bags for vets. All ladies are welcome, so please come and join this fine group of women.

This will be an evening of Song, Style & Comedy. Kari will entertain you with her unbelievable music including Broadway, Country, Jazz and more. Eric (as Dale), the Lovable Hillbilly, will have you laughing with his comedy. His everyman sense of humor has been enjoyed by folks from all walks of life. . His unique improvisational style and willingness to engage the audience makes each show a unique experience. Their combination makes for a very entertaining evening.

Although 2018 sounds a long way away, your
entertainment committee has been to showcases
to review and book performances for the next
season. The cost for 2018 will remain the same as
this year - $40/person for all 5 shows. This year’s
(2017) Season Ticket Holders get first opportunity
to purchase their 2018 Season Tickets at one of
the last 2 shows i.e. Feb. 23rd or Mar. 9th. They
must be paid for in full upon renewal. If possible,
please bring the correct amount of money to
purchase your ticket(s). These tickets are your
entrance pass into 2018’s shows so please put
them in a place where you will remember. In the
event of not being able to return for 2018, we will
issue you a refund upon receipt of your returned
tickets. We must receive those tickets by no later
than December 27th, 2017 to get your refund. You
will also receive information when you pay for
your ticket(s) outlining the procedure by which to
return tickets. Please note that the date on the
little slip of paper given to you on how to return
your ticket if need be, indicates a return date of
Dec. 31st. This is incorrect & should read DEC.

renewed, we will then sell them on a first-come
basis on a dated wait list. The first show for the
2018 season will be Jan. 11th.

The Paradise Bay Book Club will meet Tuesday, March 21 at 1:30 in the Rec Hall Annex next to the library. We will discuss the book, "An Invisible Thread" by Laura Schroff and Alex Tresniowski. It is the true story of an 11 year old panhandler, a busy sales executive and an unlikely meeting with destiny. Anyone who has read the book is welcome to attend. After 11 years spent here, Mary and Ed Weaver on D Street are leaving the park and returning to W. North Carolina and to wherever new adventures lead them. I am very grateful for the time here and appreciate the support of the staff and committees and most importantly, the members of my QI GONG group and the ZUMBA classes. Friday 03/03/2017, 8:45 AM sharp – Team Double Elimination - blind draw, with one A-player and one B-player on each team. Be at the pits early; the maximum number of players will be 32, so the first 32 players to sign up for the tournament will play. See me when you arrive at the pits so I can sign you in. You must be a resident of SB or PB, and have played at least 3 times during the 2016/2017 season, to play in the tournament. If an odd number of players sign up, the last person to sign will not play. Rain date will be 03/10/2017 at 8:45 am sharp.

Rules:
Put your full name on the score sheet.
Anyone over 70 years of age may move up to the 30 ft. line to throw.
If no one scores, the other team throws first.
You must stay behind the foul line until the horseshoe leaves your hand.
Any shoe pitched while a contestant’s foot is on or over the foul line shall be declared a foul.
A designated referee scores all close shoes.
No contestant shall move his own or opponent’s shoe or shoes, until winner of points has been agreed upon by contestants.
During a game a contestant shall not step on, mash or otherwise repair any of the material within the scoring radius of the stake without the consent of the opponent or a tournament official.
No contestant shall walk to the opposite stake, or be informed of the position of the shoes, prior to the completion of an inning.
The contestant, while not pitching, shall remain stationary and silent while the opponent is pitching his shoe.
Choice of first pitch and color of shoe will be determined by flipping a shoe. The person not flipping the shoe will call whether the cleats will be up or down.
See standings for February on the All-Stars page. The 28th Annual Golf Coast Senior Horseshoe Games were held at Bray Park in Bradenton, Florida. On February 16th, five horseshoe players from Sarasota Bay and Paradise Bay entered the Golf Coast Senior Games, and three of the players came home with medals. Congratulations to Gene Bobeldyk and Bob Palmer who came home with a gold medal in their age group, and Fred Gelderman who picked up a bronze medal in his age group.

Tuesday, March 7th from 11:00am-2:00pm in the
pool parking lot and a portion of EPT Street.
This year’s BayFest will feature nine games: Duck Races and Frisbee Toss in the pool; Toilet Seat Toss (think horseshoes); 21 or Bust dart game; Corn Hole; Bingo; Toilet Paper Toss; Ladder Golf; and the Climbing/Dancing Bears. Each game except Bingo will take two tickets per play. Bingo will take four tickets. Game tickets are still ten cents apiece. There will be a 50/50 drawing and a prize raffle (prizes will include a $50.00 Wal-Mart gift card. Tickets are one for $1.00, three for $2.00, and ten for $5.00. Lunch will feature hot dogs on the grill or pulled pork sandwiches, chips and a beverage for $4.00 person. Bingo will be selling popcorn. Remember, BayFest is a fundraiser to support the Activities Committee of the park. So plan to come to “Under the Big Top” and have a wonderful time. Also remember the golf cart rodeo will start at 3:00 down by the bay. The prize drawings will be held during the rodeo but you do not have to be present to win. See you on the 7th!

BAYFEST 2017

March is going to be a busy month for the Paradise Bay Boating & Fishing Club. It isn’t too late to join us this season to get in on the fun. Our next meeting is March 7th at 9:00 AM in Paradise Bay Hall. We will have a special speaker, Mr. Justin Wallheiser, Biological Scientist, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. Mr. Wallheiser is an avid fisherman.
This month, we will have three fish contests, the monthly which runs from the 1st to the 31st, the One Day Contest on the 16th and a special contest for those anglers who haven’t won an award yet this season on the 29th.
Thanks to all the volunteers who worked to make our Bayfront area so beautiful with the new docks and landscaping. Also for the new Kayak wash racks located at the foot of 5th Street and 103rd. Further details and other club news can be found on the internet at "paradisebay.info” under Boat/Fishing club.
Please come join us, all are welcome to attend our Club Meetings.
We have CPR classes that are open to the entire park on March 3rd and 10th. The West Manatee Fire & Rescue have given us a special rate of $6.00 per person for this 4 hour class, the club pays for members. We encourage park residents to consider taking CPR! Boat & Fishing Club Fish Fry will be on March 24, 2017 at the P.B. Rec Hall starts @12:00 noon. (Boating and Fishing Club Members Only )

Our practice day is every Friday at 9:30 AM.
Spectators are invited to watch and try our new

The Paradise Bay Shuffle Club recently hosted a State Amateur Tournament--all of our shufflers did us proud! Charlotte Broda placed 2nd in the Main and Steve Biscontine & Bernie Broda took 3rd place in the Main. A special 'thank you' to those who painted, cleaned & polished to get the courts looking exceptionally good for this competition. In District Pro tournament play, our shufflers have been busy on the shuffleboard courts. On January 29th Jerry Everett placed 1st in the Main, Marilyn Everett placed 2nd in Main and Darrel Blake took 4th in Consolation. On February 2nd Marilyn finished 1st in Main, Jerry took 2nd in Main & Darrel placed 3rd in Main. On February 9th Marilyn took 3rd in Consolation in Pro division. In the District Amateur tournament, Bernie Broda finished 3rd in Consolation and Charlotte Broda took 4th in Consolation. On February 16th Charlotte Broda and Marilyn Everett placed 2nd in the Main and Bernie Broda and Jerry Everett finish 4th in the Main. Well done, folks! The Manatee league tournament play has concluded for the season. Our competitors played well and everyone had a good time. Paradise Bay shufflers won 5 of 18 games against Tropical Palms and 13 of 18 games against Sea Breeze--Henry Chatain, Jerry Everett, Steve Biscontine and Al Kwiakowski each won all 3 of their games at Sea Breeze. Shuffle Club members will be manning the Climbing Bears game for Bayfest; be sure to stop by and see us! The Third Annual Paradise Bay Shuffleboard Club Amateur Tournament will be held Saturday, March 11th. The tournament is open to anyone from Paradise Bay or Sarasota Bay who has shuffled on our courts this year. The entrance fee is $2 and all players will be 'in the money.' For more information, stop by the shuffleboard courts any afternoon and we'll be happy to fill you in on details.
