“Don't worry that children never listen to you; worry that they are always watching you.”
-Robert Fulghum One of my flaws is that when I get into something,
I GET INTO it. A casual game of catchphrase can turn into the biggest
competition you’ve ever seen. You wanna go sledding? Sure, but don’t expect to just slide down the hill. We will make a
sweet ramp and some parallel tracks to race down. If you and I aren't already close friends, probably don’t watch basketball with me the first time we hang out.
“It’s just a basketball game.” Get out of town with that kind of negativity. Basketball is serious. Losing? No thank you.
This flaw trait comes from my father. Not long ago, he and I were at a game together, and it only
took me about 3 minutes to realize that he and I did everything the exact same way. We sat the same way,
bounced our leg the same way when moments were tense, clapped the same way, and even did this weird little fist
pump the same way when someone hit a shot. Alarming.
I don’t tell you this to tell you that I’m a competitive person and that I maybe need to work on some things, however
true that may be. But instead to tell you that if you’re a parent, your kid is watching everything you do.
Luckily, my dad also taught me a lot of amazing things that have gotten me far in life: How to respect authority, the
elderly, and the military. How to see opportunity. How to make small talk. How to network. How to be loving and kind,
even when I don’t feel very loving or kind.
Point is, your kid’s aren’t just watching, they’re learning. How to handle life, from tragedies to basketball games.
How they’ll respond comes from you. Are you responding a way in which
you’d be proud to see them respond too?

“If you want children to keep their feet
on the ground, put some

Worried that tournament parties are going to
throw off your resolutions?
Here’s some ways you can make your game day party snacks tasty
AND good for you:
-buy low or no salt options for all your chips
-consider lemonades and punches instead of sodas
-use smaller plates so you’ll consume smaller portions
(even if you go back to the meal table a few times)
-buy whole wheat bread and crackers
-set out fresh fruit options
In addition, consider making these swaps for your traditional options.
Your guests will love them!
