Message From Our CEO

CRMC’s vision is to be the best community hospital in New York State by providing outstanding service to all. An organization’s vision is meant to be lofty but attainable, and I believe we can achieve our vision. We are making great strides through construction, expanding services, purchasing the most up-to-date equipment and making sound strategic decisions. Currently, we are doubling the size of our Emergency Department, and when completed, it will be a state-of-the-art facility. We will be adding diagnostic centers in Monticello and Callicoon, and we have expanded primary care services in Livingston Manor and Callicoon. Last year, we purchased a new 64-slice CT scanner for our Harris campus. Recently, we’ve purchased new telemetry equipment and will soon be adding Wi-Fi, at which time we will implement our new wireless IV pumps. Bob Fisher has taken on the role of Administrator for our Grover Hermann Hospital, and our relationship with the Greater Hudson Valley Health System is strengthening our operations and creating efficiencies.

Steven Ruwoldt,CEO

Catskill Regional Medical Center’s (CRMC) Outpatient Infusion Center, conveniently located on the second floor of the Ambulatory Services Building (ASB) at the Harris campus, provides comprehensive services to oncology patients receiving chemotherapy, infusions and other related treatments. The Center also specializes in intravenous (IV) treatments, such as transfusions and infusions, in conjunction with local primary care physicians and providers.

The Outpatient Infusion Center has always worked closely with CRMC’s Oncology/Hematology Department. They are both located in the same office suite, which not only provides convenience, but also enables the staff to build relationships with each other. The Outpatient Infusion Center staff, made up of Julia Dolgas, RCN, and Oncology Certified Nurses (OCN) Laurie Just, RN, OCN, Glorianne Ellison, RN, OCN, and Mary O’Shea-Siegel, RN, OCN, works very closely with the Oncology/Hematology physicians, including Dr.’s Dinsmore; Kondagunta; Perry and Nurse Practitioner, Heidi Pavese. Oncology/Hematology staff members Kathy Valenti, Office Manager; Arlene Potter, Receptionist; Cathy Jorge, Biller; Anne Travis, LPN; Tybee Gilmore, LPN, and Minnie Washington, LPN, also work closely with the Infusion Center

nurses. Additionally, the Outpatient Infusion Center works closely with the Blood Bank and the Radiology, Pharmacy and Laboratory Departments.

A few years ago, the Outpatient Infusion Center serviced oncology patients almost exclusively; in recent years, however, the Center has expanded its services beyond oncology patients. This growth strategy has

proven successful, as 60 percent of the Center’s patients are currently oncology patients, and 40 percent receive transfusions, infusions, injections, therapies and other treatments as a result of the Center’s relationship with local primary care physicians and providers.

The success and growth of the Outpatient Infusion Center is, in large part, a result of the close-knit and highly-experienced team of nurses. The nurses’ experience and the amount of time they have worked together makes CRMC’s Infusion Center stand out among other infusion centers in the area. Glorianne has been with the Infusion Center for 17 years and has 21 years of experience; Laurie has been in the Center for 12 years and has 18 years of experience; Mary has been in the Center for 16 years and has 20 years of experience, and while Julia has only been in the Center for five years, she has more than 30 years of nursing experience.

In January, CRMC welcomed Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) Nancy Eschenberg to its Callicoon Family Health Center in Callicoon, N.Y. The Callicoon Family Health Center, located at the Grover M. Nancy Eschenberg, FNP, and Shannon Kane, Office Coordinator

This highly-skilled and tenured team of nurses focuses on two things: providing quality care and creating positive patient experiences. “It is all about building relationships and trust with the patients,” said Ellison.

While the nurses bond with their patients, they also like to have fun. “Aside from all of the clinical services we offer, we sometimes joke that we like to provide humor therapy,” said Just. “We have been told by patients a few times that while in our care, they sometimes forget they have cancer. Seeing their smiles while going through a difficult time is extremely satisfying for us.”

Besides providing services and caring for their patients, the Outpatient Infusion Center staff is very active in the community. They organize the annual Celebration of Life Oncology Picnic, which began in 1993 for cancer outpatients, and are involved in the CRMC Cancer Support program, the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life and the Look Good, Feel Better program.

The Outpatient Infusion Center nurses have an open door policy and are always willing to answer questions concerning the services they offer. To learn more about the Outpatient Infusion Center, call ext. 2831.

CRMC Welcomes Nancy Eschenberg, FNP, to Callicoon Family Health Center

We can build it, buy it, expand it, and improve it, and a patient will come once. But, it is up to all of us to create exceptional patient experiences to ensure they will come back. Patient satisfaction and staff satisfaction have never been more important. The LEAN Initiative, the AIDET Initiative and the GOLF Customer Service program are all tools to help us increase patient and staff satisfaction and to guarantee positive experiences. It is up to all of us to embrace this culture and make sure that our patients are impressed with our quality of care and service.

Sincerely,

Steven Ruwoldt, CEO

CRMC Launches LEAN InitiativeCRMC has joined high-performing hospitals throughout the world in embracing a continuous improvement initiative called the LEAN Hospital. CRMC staff members will learn how to create efficiencies and improve overall effectiveness to achieve greater patient and employee satisfaction. The vision of LEAN is to continually enhance how we work to enable staff members to do the jobs they were hired to do, which will positively impact our patients’ experiences.
