THE
SLATE March 20, 2009
Attendance: It is important! Dear Parents, I wanted to share with you the importance of your child being at school each day. The number one reason for your child to be in school is so they can receive instruction on a daily basis. Your child’s attendance not only ensures that they receive daily instruction, but it also contributes to our goal of 97% attendance rate for the year. I am going to share several facts with you about our attendance this year.
• Our goal each year is to have 97% attendance rate. • We have had 2976 absences this year. • 393 absences have been for vacation. • We have had 1869 tardies this year. • Our current attendance rate is approximately 96.9%.
While we understand that childhood illnesses are a fact of life, regular attendance at school is still a worthwhile and attainable goal. Over the last two months of school, I would like for you to make a conscious effort to make sure your child is in school. Please let me know if you have any questions. I appreciate you supporting the importance of education at Orchard Park. Partners in Education,
Tim Phares

“Suessical The Musical”“Suessical The Musical”“Suessical The Musical”“Suessical The Musical”
Tradition is alive and well at Orchard Park Elementary! The 2008-2009 5th grade class presented the play
“Suessical The Musical”, based on the books by Dr. Suess, to OPE students on the morning of March 19.
Public performances will take place on March 19 & 20 at 7:00 p.m. Mrs. Bergman, Ms. Holloway and many members of the 5th grade class have spent numerous after school hours (and a Saturday!)
rehearsing. Several 5th grade parents have also volunteered their time, making costumes, painting sets and organizing the
cast and crew party.
